This Recruitment is for part-time, temporary pool/substitute positions only (no benefits).

Position may be located at either the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) in Boyds, Maryland or at the Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) in Rockville, Maryland, depending upon the area of specialty/interest and the needs of the Department.

Part-time pay rate begins at $43.18 per hour (depending upon years of experience.)

This is full performance level professional nursing performed in the correctional environment. Work encompasses the entire clinical nursing process from planning and intake through discharge into the community (primary care, chronic care, case management, emergency triage, emergency services and infirmary nursing, including health promotion and disease prevention).

Employee will be responsible for conducting intake screenings of newly incarcerated inmates; collecting and analyzing client health data; administering immunizations and a wide range of oral medications and injections; providing client health supervision, counseling, guidance and teaching directed toward health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, and alleviation of specific health problems (e.g., those common to the correctional environment); assessing and treating minor health problems; observing and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration data and effects of medication; initiating appropriate measures in emergency situations when a physician is not available; providing guidance on technical and practical matters to newly assigned and lower grade nurses; maintaining records, writing reports, assuring orderliness, maintaining supplies and equipment and the sanitation of the unit; sterilizing instruments and supplies; referring inmate-patients and families to available health and community services and providing follow-up services as required; coordinating client care; providing one-on-one health guidance and teaching on health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention and alleviation of specific health problems; and, conducting education classes for inmates as assigned.

The facility is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, some weekends and holidays are required.

Prior to appointment, all applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination and drug/alcohol screen. Prior to a promotional appointment within DOCR, the selected individual must answer the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) questions and submit to a criminal history to comply with the Prevention Planning on Hiring and Promotion Decisions (115.17, 115.117, 115.217, 115.317). This is a requirement to meet Federal law and audit standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent post-licensure experience as a Registered Nurse.

Education: Graduation from a registered education nursing program approved by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or an education program in registered nursing in any other state or country that the Board finds substantially equivalent to the program in Maryland.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License:

Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland issued by the Maryland State Board of Nursing to practice registered nursing is required at the time of appointment.* If the license is temporary, a regular Maryland RN license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of appointment. Obtains continuing education as required by COMAR 10.53.04 for each renewal year.

*The State of Maryland accepts as valid the current RN licensure from a candidate\'s primary state of residence if that state has an interstate compact with Maryland. The states having this interstate compact are Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. (This equivalency only applies to candidates whose primary residence is not Maryland).
