Job Description

Correctional Trades Leaders at Clarinda Correctional Facility provide safety and security by providing proper maintenance and repairs for our facility. They also direct offender work crews who provide labor for buildings and grounds. Will lead and train offender workers while completing assigned work. Lead projects and prioritize assigned work based on communication with all levels of organization.

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements will be placed on the eligible list. Selective certifications required: 763 Water Supply (6 months\' experience in the operating of a drinking water (also called water supply) treatment plant or distribution plant.)

763 Water Supply
6 months experience in the operating of a drinking water (also called water supply) treatment plant or distribution plant. Also, operation of a wastewater treatment plant or distribution system would be acceptable, because many of the principles and mechanics are very similar. 12 semester hours in:

• Specific drinking water treatment
• Wastewater treatment
• Advanced analytical chemistry water/wastewater
• Water resources coursework such as hydrology
• Watershed management
• Hydrogeology

Also, any design courses specifically in water supply (drinking water) or wastewater treatment or distribution systems are acceptable.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

• Four years of full-time work experience in one or more of the recognized building (e.g., carpentry, painting, plumbing/pipefitting, electrical and masonry) and mechanical/repair (e.g., air conditioning/ heating, auto mechanics, upholstery and welding) trades.
• A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a recognized building and mechanical trade for each year of the required experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Furniture Upholsterer, Mason, Maintenance Repairer, Carpenter 1 or 2, Painter 1 or 2, Plumber 1 or 2, or Welder.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Within a period of time, as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Chapter 103, Iowa Code

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required commercial driver's license and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
