The immediate vacancies are with the Department of Public Safety and located at the Halawa Correctional Facility, Oahu Community Correctional Center, and Women\'s Community Correctional Center.
Salary: $4,690 to $5,713 per month (SR 20, Step D to I).
Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant\'s qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties Summary
Independently develops, implements and evaluates individual educational plans for inmates confined in an adult correctional facility; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Prerequisite Knowledge and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of: Basic principles of human behavior and motivation; principles and practices of education and learning; instructional methods and materials; and report writing.
Ability to: Assess, plan, coordinate, carry out and evaluate academic/vocational activities for inmates; assess inmates\' progress; learn and apply the legislative mandates and statutes relating to the educational requirements for inmates; learn and apply corrections education program activities, goals and objectives, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; learn about and utilize related programs in educational institutions, community resources and agencies; learn which federal, State and local government agencies are involved with educational issues; become aware of vocational opportunities in the correctional facility such as activities in the carpentry work line, or in computer graphics, as part of the Correctional Industries program; maintain records and write reports of inmate activities, participation and progress in the corrections education program; plan and conduct academic instruction; and deal effectively with a variety of people and agencies (inmates, instructors, tutors, volunteers, businesses, schools) who provide services.
Basic Education: A bachelor\'s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
General Experience: One and one-half years* of progressively responsible professional teaching experience which involved developing educational lesson plans; providing instruction to students; assessing students\' progress and modifying educational plans to address level of progress. Such experience MUST have involved and demonstrated knowledge of the application of principles and practices of education and learning and instructional methods and materials.
*One year of General Experience is defined as a school year approximately 180 "teacher duty" days or approximately 38 weeks per year.
Non-Qualifying Experience: Teaching work experience of general interest subjects such as dancing, ukulele, etc., which did not require the knowledge and application of principles and practices of education and learning and instructional methods and materials, or which did not require assessment, evaluation and measurement of student progress is not qualifying.
Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
Other Requirements: All applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into this position shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws, or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "....an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
(3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
