Benefits to you

We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.

The hourly equivalent for this position is $23.64 - $36.67.

OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!

Position Highlights

We are hiring a High Volume Courtroom Clerk (Courtroom Clerk) to join our team in the High Volume Clerks unit.

In this role, you will support a judge in a courtroom by performing real-time data entry for cases about criminal, traffic, parking, domestic relations, stalking, small claims, and landlord/tenant matters. You will review case files, prepare court forms, process and disposition exhibits, and create and maintain a digital record of the court proceedings using a variety of software and equipment. You will also coordinate remote hearings, schedule complex court dockets and appearances, recall warrants, issue show-cause actions, and suspend or clear suspensions on drivers\xe2\x80\x99 licenses.

When you are not in the courtroom, you will provide administrative support in partnership with other court staff. This work includes performing complex data entry, processing documents filed with the court, routing files and documents, verifying recordings of proceedings, maintaining multiple calendars, scheduling hearings, and entering dispositions and sentences. You will also compose letters, prepare correspondence and legal documents, and edit documents for accuracy and completeness. Part of your time will be spent maintaining databases, arranging for court interpreters, and serving as a technical resource for colleagues.

Providing customer service to judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants, partner agencies, and the public is a key part of this position. You will check in parties for court, verify parties\xe2\x80\x99 contact information, respond to emails, and work at our reception desk to answer questions about cases, court processes and procedures, schedules, and court forms. You will also assist attorneys and self-represented litigants with filing exhibits and filling out forms, and you will train new employees as needed.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.

OR

Any combination of equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; slight variation from these hours may be permitted at the supervisor\xe2\x80\x99s discretion. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.

Occasional overtime may be required to complete a court session and related time-sensitive paperwork or data entry.

This position mainly works at the Multnomah County Courthouse (1200 SW 1st Ave.) but occasionally may need to work at the East County Courthouse (18480 SE Stark St.), the Justice Center (1120 SW 3rd Ave.), or the Juvenile Justice Center (1401 NE 68th Ave.).

Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.

Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma. This position may be exposed to hostile litigants and high-risk defendants and to court exhibits that include weapons or other hazardous materials.

Long periods of sitting or standing.

Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner. Software programs used include Microsoft Office Suite, For the Record, Odyssey, Webex, and the Sheriff Warrant and Inmate System.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Parking

Multnomah Circuit Court does not provide parking for courthouse or justice center staff. Flexible spending accounts are available to reimburse parking or transportation costs up to a certain amount each month, if staff elect to have these funds held from their monthly paycheck.

Criminal Background Check
