Job Description


We are seeking an experienced Crew Supervisor for a Non-Profit in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Position Description:

The Crew Supervisor is primarily responsible for the completion of project work through the direct daily supervision of program participants, known as members, at project sites. The position provides daily support and supervision to members at project site to complete projects on time and on budget. The Crew Supervisor will conduct member project\xe2\x80\x90specific trainings and ensure that all safety procedures are followed at the project site.

Responsibilities:

  • Successful Crew Supervisor also act as positive role models, making significant contributions to providing a positive work environment that values diversity and fosters a commitment to teamwork and learning.
  • Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to, training of proper workplace safety procedures, hands\xe2\x80\x90on tool use, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Crew Supervisor should be readily available to work on both natural resources and recycling projects, as needed.
  • Crew supervisor empowers members to achieve their educational goals, while assisting the Field Operations and member development teams in trainings at the project site and/or in classroom settings.
  • Successful crew supervisor is expected to perform day\xe2\x80\x90to\xe2\x80\x90day administrative tasks associated with member reporting, project data tracking, and disciplinary reporting and enforcement.
  • Crew supervisor are responsible for following and implementing all organization policies and procedures, in coordination with the field operations and member development teams, around safety, behavior, and performance.
  • Act independently or in conjunction with the field operations and member development teams to resolve attendance and behavior issues.
  • Coordinate daily with field operations team to successfully dispatch crews to project sites on time and with the appropriate equipment.
  • Maintain and properly care for all project equipment and vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes in a positive fashion.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast\xe2\x80\x90paced and diverse environment.
  • At least 2 years of project experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff to work collaboratively.
  • Microsoft Office Suite software and databases.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Clean DMV record, with the ability to earn a California Class B driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
  • Experience in a related field, especially focused on natural resources management, landscaping, horticulture, or recycling or other equivalent experience preferred.
  • Understanding of recycling, waste management and/or conservation preferred.
  • Experience in the operation of passenger vans, box trucks and trailers preferred.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools preferred.
Education and Experience:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical avenues of obtaining the appropriate knowledge and abilities include:
  • Earned High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of college education or vocational training in natural resource management, environmental studies, job training or counseling, from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in youth development, project management, or the implementation of recycling or natural resource projects.
  • Experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Experience serving and volunteering in the community.
Compensation:
  • Non-exempt position starts at $25.00 per hour.

Other situations include sitting at a desk while using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a van or truck for long periods of time; intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk and climbing ladder to a flatbed truck.
