We are looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Business Developer to join our Living Lab \xe2\x80\x9cCybersecurity Analytics\xe2\x80\x9d and research team in Princeton, NJ! In this role, you will lead the business development activities of our research team as Innovation Manager. As a Siemens internal research organization, we strive to provide cybersecurity expertise and R&D capabilities to the Siemens Business Units. Our funding model requires us to win and execute projects within the global company, and thus to successfully and effectively communicate our capabilities and identify demand for cybersecurity support within Siemens.

This is a technical coordination / management role without line management responsibilities (no direct reports), with a strong business development and relationship management components.

The Living Lab features several focus topics:

  • Cyber Defense \xe2\x80\x93 the lab features cyber defense capabilities that our research team develops to monitor industrial assets and networks, detect cyber-attacks, and orchestrate and support incident response.
  • Security Testing \xe2\x80\x93 the lab acts as a cyber test range, developing, improving, and showcasing new technology and tools to improve effectiveness and efficiency of security testing in industrial environments, as well as exposing Siemens products, solutions, and services to a comprehensive testing regime to ensure vulnerabilities are found and mitigated before products hit the field.
  • Security Architecture \xe2\x80\x93 the lab supports the development and improvement of security features for products, solutions, and services by providing the opportunity to quickly assemble and modify specific industrial environments to test security architecture design features, e.g., in the area of automation, digital twin, Zero Trust, etc.
The right person will have a strong background in Industrial Cybersecurity, ideally Cyber Defense and Security Testing, and excellent overview about existing tools and technology to support security monitoring (especially SIEM tools), as well as a solid understanding of operations technology (OT), ideally in the energy or industrial control space. Together with background in research or R&D, this will help you succeeding in this role.

The Challenge

In this role, you will:
  • be the main Business Developer of the research group, building and maintaining a strong network within Siemens to advertise for, communicate, and match our technological expertise to departments in need of the deep technical capabilities our research team brings to the table.
  • as Innovation Manager, lead and develop our Living Lab used to develop as well as showcase research results and capabilities, and coordinate and communicate the research agenda of the team, supporting both the Research Group Head to maintain a strong research strategy, as well as the Principal Key Expert in managing research projects and activities.
  • develop, drive, and maintain a continuous development plan for our Living Lab, i.e., drive design and implementation of new features, new capabilities, and new showcases in the Living Lab, assisted by researchers, system administrators, and software developers. This plan will align with other global cybersecurity research labs within Siemens Technology.
  • develop and maintain a marketing and promotion plan to optimize messaging and presentation of the Lab to help visitors (technical and non-technical) and collaboration partners to understand and explore the value and collaboration potential, as well as value of shown research results. Via these activities, you will support and drive the transfer of research results into industrial products at Siemens.
  • explore, establish, and supervise collaborative research projects based on the lab\xe2\x80\x99s capabilities with Siemens Business Units, academia, and other outside entities. Support the development of proposals for government funded research projects based on or supported by the Living Lab.
  • support research and consulting projects in the areas of cyber defense, cybersecurity risk management, cybersecurity standards compliance, monitoring and attack detection, and security testing.
  • Be an active member of relevant professional communities within and outside of Siemens, and publish and present novel ideas and techniques at selected journals and conferences as applicable.
Qualified candidates will have:
  • M.Sc. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree / academic experience (required), PhD preferred.
  • Excellent up-to-date technical and hands-on knowledge in current attack methods and in mitigating cybersecurity risk in the industrial domain / critical infrastructure environments (required)
  • 5+ years of technical work, project, or research experience in several areas of cybersecurity such as attack detection, SOC engineering, SIEM technology, breach & attack simulation, penetration testing, industrial cybersecurity consulting, industrial cybersecurity risk management, or industrial cybersecurity (required)
  • Technical / hands-on experience required in multiple of the following (or equivalent) software tools: ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Splunk, network and host IDS systems, bro/zeek, MISP (or other cyber threat intelligence integration platforms), Burp Suite, Metasploit, manual exploitation (strongly preferred)
  • Working knowledge of common industrial network protocols, packet capturing and network protocol analysis and proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, bash, etc), Linux, and containerized applications (required)
  • Experience in business development and technical marketing (strongly preferred)
  • Excellent communication and technical leadership skills required; need to be able to explain sophisticated ideas and methods on multiple technical levels.
  • Research project experience in cybersecurity, preferably cyber defense preferred, e.g., through academia or government funded research projects.
  • Experience with scientific proposal writing a significant plus
  • Certifications such as GIAC GRID, GIAC GICSP, GIAC GCIP, CISSP a plus but not required
  • Willingness to travel, up to 20% (domestic/international)
This position is in Princeton, NJ, USA. As it requires frequent physical presence on site, it is not offered as a pure remote position. Must be eligible to work in the US.
