POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is seeking a Data Management Specialist II for remote work role, with occasional participation at one of our US offices. As an integral part of our team, the Data Management Specialist will support multiple customers and projects in managing databases for large environmental projects throughout the United States. The focus of this position will be to support primarily USACE clients on military munitions response program (MMRP) projects and specifically focus on geophysical database creation, maintenance, and submittal and developing geophysical data processing tools for advanced geophysical classification (AGC) sensors.

This will be a remote work position. For occasional in-person meetings, HGL prefers a candidate located within regular commuting distance to one of HGL offices in Reston, VA; Albany, NY; Denver, CO; Huntsville, AL; Kansas City, MO; or Phoenix, AZ. Travel will not be required for this position; though attendance at annual internal HGL meetings is beneficial.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU\'LL BE DOING

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining project databases and performing other functions, both routine (for example, posting data for use by project staff) and unscheduled (for example, correcting data found erroneous during other quality control [QC] reviews).

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Data management of various environmental data, including geophysical survey data; AGC data; raw data processing; import / export of data into MS Access; automation of import/export tools; maintenance and troubleshooting of MS access databases.
  • Skills in SQL and programming skills such as Python or equivalent.
  • Experience with Survey123 or another major form builder/process automation tool for creation and import/export of survey form data, to include troubleshooting and automation of a Survey123 or similar process automation tools.
  • Assist with loading data sets into databases and data systems from sources such as subcontractor geophysical survey entities, professional land surveyors, spreadsheets, and other databases, etc.
  • Experience in performing and test backup and recovery processes.
  • Evaluate data sets for completeness and correctness.
  • Develop and maintain MS Access front end to assist end-user in automation and QC.
  • Support end-users on database user interface applications.
  • Support end-users by developing specialized reports and/or custom queries for data.
  • Review data for quality assurance and support ongoing quality control.
  • Experience with database maintenance of geophysical sensor data, location survey information, intrusive investigation results; analog investigation results, etc.
  • Not required but viewed as a plus: Familiarity with HTML/CSS for web-based sharing of data from a SQL database.
  • Effectively work with a team of data management analysts and other professionals to develop corrective actions and improvements to the quality data management processes.
  • Work effectively as a team member in the development of requirements for new environmental data reporting tools and processes.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
  • Required skills include using the database software and other software listed above to create and maintain project-specific databases; and developing data tables, figures, and reports.
  • In addition, the candidate will be responsible for office work under the direction of individual project managers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel, SQL Server, and SharePoint.
  • 2+ years of experience in data management.
  • Strong analytical and database skills and environmental background.
  • Organized, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Attention to detail is extremely important, as is the ability to communicate effectively with project participants.
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT

Experience with data management systems and SQL, programming languages such as Python or equivalent, and automation tools such as Survey123, or equivalent.
  • HTML/CSS skills are not required but beneficial.
  • Familiarity with US Army Corps of Engineers MMRP projects, US Army Corps of Engineers geophysical surveying
  • Knowledge of and experience with RCRA, CERCLA, DoD, DOE, or USEPA projects.
  • Ability to complete a background check to obtain credentials to access Government data systems.
