The Database Administrator supports our Purpose by modernizing the Analytics Platform to allow the democratization of data and increased accessibility for decision makers. This role plays an integral part in the cloud modernization journey by moving assets from on premise to a cloud environment. Additional Details:
This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Job Summary
Design, build and operate highly available, performant, secure database platforms. Create visual monitoring and automated alerts against proactive database thresholds. Configure and ensure regular backups are taken and tested routinely. Audit systems to ensure security guidelines are maintained. Perform changes in line with Southwest Airlines change management guidelines. Utilize automation when appropriate routine tasks are identified. Create and keep current documentation needed for managing, onboarding or troubleshooting the database platform.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate and manage database technical functionality, such as performance, security and reliability
Coordinate, validate and execute database migrations and change controls to address business requirements and system capabilities
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, or other network and system problems
Enforce database and system development standards
Implement global temporary tables, data partitions, and function-based indexes to enable efficient access of the generic database structure
Design databases to support business applications, ensuring system scalability, security, performance and reliability
Implement customized processes to aid in management and administration of the database
Collaborate with system architects, software architects, design analysts, and others to understand business and industry requirements
Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to manage ongoing support of the products (hardware/software upgrades, patches, fixes etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of database architecture and security, transaction processing, and replication methods
Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating system utilization data. This may also include turning raw data into meaningful information using visualization software
Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
Preferred: AWS Cloud Certification
Preferred: Experience working in a SAFE agile environment
Preferred: Experience with Redshift security, IAM permissions, and S3 Security
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Bachelor\'s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent formal training
Experience
Required:
Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in design, building, and operation of database systems
Highly Preferred:
Strong experience working on Data Migration from On-prem to AWS Cloud
Experience with Redshift security, IAM permissions (User Groups, Roles, Policies, Instance Profiles), S3 Security, Data Encryption
Expert DBA skills using RDMS such as Teradata,Oracle, Sql server.
Solid understanding of data warehouse design patterns and best practices
Experience implementing and debugging workloads in AWS.
Hands on experience in loading data, running complex queries, performance tuning
Experience with analyzing production workloads and developing strategies to run Redshift clusters with scale and efficiency
Good knowledge of Workload Management within Redshift along with queue management.
Preferred:
Hands on experience with Python scripting & Automation
AWS solution architect certification
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $118,600 per year to $131,800 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
