Salary: $3,194 to $4,038 per month (SR-10, Step C to I)
Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant\'s qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Duties Summary
Performs tactical dental chairside assistance and clinical-support duties that require specialized knowledge and skill, and involve the more complex clinical procedures of dental assistance work, such as operating-room procedures in oral surgery, or clinical procedures in prosthetic dentistry, and/or performs dental X-ray work including the exposing and developing of dental X-rays for both standard and unusual views; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Basic Experience/Education: Applicants must possess one or a combination of the following:
A. Work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill.
B. Excess experience of the type described below.
OR
C. Graduation from high school.
Specialized Experience Requirement: One (1) year of full-time work experience which involved general chairside assistance to dentists performing examinations, fillings, extractions, and the treatment of various oral conditions; cleaning and sterilizing equipment, preparation and mixing of materials for fillings and maintaining dental records.
In addition to meeting the requirements specified above, applicants must have had a minimum of one (1) additional year of dental assistance work comparable to the Dental Assistant II in the State service, which provided the applicant with working knowledge of the terminology, procedures, materials and instruments used in dentistry and which demonstrated the ability to perform the full range of standard dental assistant duties with a minimum of direction and to anticipate and respond to dentist\'s needs during treatments.
The Dental Assistant II furnishes chairside assistance to a dentist in the performance of dental procedures; under general supervision, performs related clinical-support duties such as cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, and preparing restorative and other materials for treatment of patients; makes appointments, maintains dental records; retracts tongue and cheeks from area of operation; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
Other Requirements: Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy.
