Summary

Your caseload, depending on your level of experience, will include a diverse mixture of case types (unless misdemeanors are more appropriate). Additional assignments (such as drug court defense attorney) are possible.

\xc2\xb7 Reviews legal cases to determine if sufficient cause exists to prosecute.

\xc2\xb7 Advises law enforcement officers and witnesses of legal procedures.

\xc2\xb7 Files complaints on Justice Court misdemeanor cases.

\xc2\xb7 Prosecutes or defends cases in Justice Courts.

\xc2\xb7 Confers with clients. Advises clients regarding their legal rights, courses of action and strength of a case.

\xc2\xb7 Reviews performance and gives instructions and guidance in court procedures, trial techniques and in matters of law.

\xc2\xb7 Conducts legal research on own behalf and that of other attorneys by computer.

\xc2\xb7 Obtains and reviews source documents such as police reports, medical records, and transcripts. Locates and interviews witnesses.

\xc2\xb7 Prepares and files necessary court documents.

\xc2\xb7 Attends and participates in court appearances and legal proceedings.

Knowledge and Skills

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of principles and procedures of the Arizona justice system.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of the application of statutes and legal precedents.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of legal and administrative proceedings.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of the preparation of legal defenses and prosecutions.

\xc2\xb7 Skill in rendering logical, clear and effective arguments.

\xc2\xb7 Skill in interpreting statutes, case histories and various laws.

\xc2\xb7 Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing.

\xc2\xb7 Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.

\xc2\xb7 Skill at conducting computerized legal research.

\xc2\xb7 Skill in preparing documents by word processing.

Desirable Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and current membership in the State Bar of Arizona.
