JHU\'s Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, established at the university\'s founding in 1876, created the Advanced Academic Programs division in 1991 to further the university\'s mission of educating and cultivating lifelong learners. Today, AAP offers over 45 high-quality master\'s degree. With operations in the nation\'s capital and on JHU\'s flagship Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland, AAP is a fast-moving division with a collaborative culture that reflects the dynamic nature of the professional environments in which our students seek to advance and excel.

AAP seeks a forward-thinking, highly collaborative, and entrepreneurial individual to join its leadership team and invites applications for the position of Director of Faculty Affairs. The Director of Faculty Affairs is an academic and administrative leader responsible for the support of 60 full-time and part-time teaching line faculty and 450 adjuncts. The Director of Faculty Affairs is a member of the division\'s senior leadership team, reporting to the associate dean of Graduate and Professional Programs and supervises and leads a team of three full-time employees.

The Director of Faculty Affairs has four broad areas of Responsibility.

  • Faculty Recruitment and Appointment: Developing, leading and implementing effective strategies for faculty recruitment, selection processes and contracting.
  • Managing accreditation and ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and program review processes for all program offerings.
  • Leading AAP\'s assessment strategy across the portfolio and the implementation of the University\'s assessment management system, AEFIS.
  • Collaborating with the IRC and the faculty to provide professional development opportunities on topics related to teaching excellence.
  • The Director of Faculty Affairs is expected to occupy a prominent leadership role in the division, to represent the division\'s interests effectively, to collaborate with other members of the senior leadership team on division-wide strategic planning efforts, and to complete other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the search and hiring process for AAP faculty, including contract negotiation and the onboarding of new faculty ensuring fair and inclusive hiring practices.
  • Oversee the faculty appointment and promotion process.
  • Work closely with the Instructional Resource Center to develop and maintain faculty professional development opportunities; provide guidance and support to faculty members regarding professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate the annual evaluation process for faculty performance, and promotion.
  • Supervise two academic program coordinators and one assistant/associate director for assessment.
  • Research and prepare reports on faculty demographics, salary equity and annual contract data.
  • Address faculty-related issues, conflicts and disciplinary actions in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Work with accrediting bodies and the Office of the Provost to meet compliance standards.
  • Work closely with the Instructional Resource Center on new program and course developments.
  • Gather data and relevant information for program review and prepare it for submission to the appropriate review and accrediting bodies.
  • Develop and implement assessment plans for AAP programs, including the implementation of assessment management software, AEFIS; Track the health of the programs by gathering data and preparing reports.
  • Serve on and/or chair special committees to support strategic projects within AAP, the School of Arts and Sciences, and broader university-wide initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master\'s Degree.
  • Eight years of management experience in a complex higher education environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in faculty affairs, compliance, accreditation, and academic planning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD, JD, MFA, or MBA preferred.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
