JOB DESCRIPTION

In coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), Providence Public School District implements a comprehensive and transformative school improvement model required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The Director of School Redesign will report to the Executive Director of School Improvement and will work to ensure students have access to a rigorous, high-quality school improvement models that will support academic success for all learners. The instructional leader will drive research-based innovative program initiatives that includes evidence-based interventions, student-centered instructional methods, and continuous data monitoring to assist in the realignment of Tier I instruction. The Director will focus on leveraging salient research and data to drive school improvement initiatives and monitor deliverables and ensure on grade level learning, equity, and increased student achievement. In addition, the Director will collaborate with colleagues on district teams to support the implementation of the school redesign plans.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Rhode Island Department of Education Certification Building Administrator K-12
  • Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment preferred
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Contributing to the establishment of, and support a thriving culturally diverse and high-quality school environment
  • Monitor the school improvement instructional calendar to ensure evidence-based interventions and pedagogy are implemented
  • Align school improvement and program resources to prioritize student achievement and maximize results based on vision and measurable outcomes
  • Operationalize the selected innovative model and programs and engage school leadership, students, and community advisory boards (CAB)
  • Assist the school site leaders in the execution of school redesign process
  • Analyze and operationalize quantitative and qualitative data regularly to inform decisions, assess progress of goals, and adjust action plans accordingly at school sites
  • Collaborate with staff to manage the impact of community partners, strategic school improvement partners, colleges and universities, and non-profits organizations that will support school improvement and advanced academics initiatives
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community, business organizations, and colleges and universities
  • Coordinate Professional Development for Redesign Schools, and all PPSD schools as needed
  • Ensure equitable and rigorous learning experiences and access for all students, especially Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners / Multilingual Language Learners
  • Disaggregate all data (academics, attendance, discipline, course taking trends, and other data points that impact school improvement) by student subgroups to identify disparities
  • Develop state-of-the-art and inclusive instructional spaces that support the delivery of innovative curriculum and collaborate with central office facilities team
  • Support central office staff to develop and implement high-quality and exploratory-based summer learning programs for all learners
  • Support central office staff to develop and implement high-quality tutoring and enrichment programs district-wide
  • Perform duties and responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent / Designee and/or the Chief Academic Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • At least 5 years of high school teaching experience and at least 3 years in a school or district leadership position with evidence of turnaround results, urban school district high school principal or central office experience preferred
  • Experience with school design and model development

  • Strong knowledge of strategic planning, operations, positive school culture, authentic family and community involvement strategies and partnerships
  • Innovative leader who demonstrates strength and creativity in the face of adversity, creative thinking, and adaptive problem solving skills
  • Evidence of commitment to equity initiatives with a record of demonstrated cultural competency, anti-racist, and inclusive leadership
  • Exceptional strategic, analytical, logistical, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect and build trust with range of stakeholders including parents, students, and staff
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and follow-through skills
  • A strong academic background and experience in designing rigorous academic programs and developing partnerships with colleges and universities is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Bilingual language or second language proficiency skills preferred
