Job Description


Cigna Healthcare is seeking a proactive self-starter and experienced communications strategist to join the business communications team. The individual will lead the overall communications strategy, planning and execution for the U.S. Government business, including executive communications (both internal and external) for the President of the business, along with employee and external communications for the business. Cigna Healthcare\'s U.S. Government segment is comprised of the Medicare business - inclusive of Medicare Advantage, Supplemental Benefits, and Government Pharmacy - and the Individual and Family Plans (IFP) business - which offers health plans on the individual exchanges.

This candidate will have extensive experience with Medicare and other government regulated health plan communications and will possess the skills to develop proactive, comprehensive communications strategies, as well as lead the development of communications and exacting tactical execution. This individual is a strategist, a quick learner, able to lead work independently, deadline driven and has experience developing deep relationships with senior executives. This individual will also have experience leading a team of communications professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the communications leader developing strategic communications plans and leads the development and execution of comprehensive, high-quality communications for key internal and external stakeholders including employee audiences, clients, external media and industry thought leaders.
  • Leads the development and execution of a wide variety of internal and external communication activities and tactics, such as town halls, manager calls, leadership meetings, internal and external leadership presentations, reputation management initiatives, talking points, leadership messages, video content, organizational announcements, newsletters, and external thought leadership.
  • Serves as the communications leader to the President of the U.S. Government business, and leads a team to support the business, providing counsel on solutions that help achieve business objectives. Develops strategies and implements tactics to communicate business priorities.
  • Builds strong relationships across the enterprise, and partners effectively with other teams as needed, such as Technology, Finance, Human Resources and Legal.
  • Uses innovative communication channels; engages and motivates employees about business projects and priorities through storytelling.
  • Partners closely with external communications team to shape and drive earned media engagement.
  • Works across teams and businesses; ensures appropriate processes are followed and obtains final approvals from subject matter experts, project owners and compliance/legal team.
  • Monitors and evaluates results of communications programs, using specific metrics to track progress and insights for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Medicare communications experience required(in-house or agency setting).
  • Bachelor\'s degree in communications or related discipline and at least 12+ years\' experience in a corporate, healthcare or government communications, or public relations agency.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to translate highly complex content into concise and succinct messages and stories.
  • Strong writing and editing skills a must; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles, including online, broadcast and social media. Experience developing proactive communications strategies.
  • Experience in working closely with C-suite executives and providing communications counsel.
  • Experience in identifying the relationship between business and communication objectives.
  • A record of success in juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and working in a highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous scenarios with the ability to pivot directions as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a virtual environment.
  • Proactive self-starter who demonstrates good judgment as well as tact and discretion to work with employees at all levels.
  • Strong creative skills, including with visual communications, and experience in internal and external event planning and messaging.
  • Some travel required within the U.S.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 135,900 - 226,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
