The Director-Recreation is responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating a comprehensive wellness and activities program to provide a better quality of life for Tribal Members of the Poarch Creek Indians. He/she shall be the one who interacts with children and adults of all ages and understands the creativity that is needed to provide well-structured and enjoyable activities to this group of individuals. The Director-Recreation is responsible for directing/managing the overall daily operations of the Recreation Department. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Director-Recreation is expected to perform all duties and responsibility necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs.
The Director-Recreation is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.Primary Responsibilities of the Director-Recreation

  • Expert advisor on all recreation and wellness issues and matters.
  • Develops policies and procedures in order to administer all aspects of the Tribexe2x80x99s recreation programs.
  • Prepares short and long term goals and plans to meet Tribal needs based on studies of local conditions and projections of the future composition of the Tribal community.
  • Promotes wellness, sports, and activities in the community; distributes promotion information to the entire community.
  • Attends all recreation, wellness and other community meetings as deemed appropriate.
  • Responsible for the development of resources for the continuation of all Sports and Activities Programs.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate program budgets, including but not limited to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and the designation and distribution of funds.
  • Responsible for requisitioning and maintaining accurate inventory of equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Oversees all Recreation projects.
  • Develops the annual operations plans and budget for the Department.
  • Keeps Division Director-Community Services abreast of all challenges, concerns, and successes in the department and up to date on all operations of the Division, including the preparation and submission of monthly reports to ensure accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities of the Recreation Department which include but not limited to wellness programs and age appropriate sports leagues/teams and activities.
  • Develops and enforces recreation and wellness policies.
  • Supervises the appropriate program staff including, but not limited to, general supervision, disciplinary actions, leave approval, timesheets, and other applicable approval when necessary.
Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s Degree required. Masterxe2x80x99s Degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years of related employment experience working with youth and young adults within the recreational field.
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience in monitoring or coordinating the activities of subordinated including general supervision, performance evaluations, disciplinary procedures, leave approval, timesheets, etc. required.
  • Three (3) years working with budgets including required reports, budget, modifications, etc. required.
  • Knowledge of Federal wellness and educational programs preferred.
  • Four (4) of employment experience in projects/contract administration preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must possess certification of xe2x80x9cMandatory Reporter Trainingxe2x80x9d or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
  • Must possess xe2x80x9cServSafe Certificationxe2x80x9d or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
Skills Required
  • Absolute confidentiality.
  • Must possess character that earns the confidence of participants, parents, and community, and minimizes public criticism or complaints.
  • Must be able to understand and implement wellness and activities needs of the community and recommend additional areas, facilities and programs to meet needs.
  • Working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, Excel, Power point, etc.
  • Must possess high level of maturity and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Must possess character that earns the confidence of program participants and minimizes public criticism or complaints.
  • Must enjoy working with children and adults of all ages.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist for an extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours.
  • Must possess a valid driverxe2x80x99s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development and other events.
  • Ability to adequately and successfully perform all duties and responsibilities of this position.
