Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department (AHD)
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with some weekends required
LOCATION: 825 L StreetExample of DutiesAssist Community Health Nursing (CHN) Program Manager with all aspects of program administration, with a primary focus on disease prevention and control and epidemiology. Closely collaborate with other CHN Program Supervisors. Supervise assigned staff at both on site and off-site locations. Perform assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and management evaluation for clients seeking services related to disease prevention for communicable diseases and epidemiological investigation related to communicable disease. Travel to various locations in the community to oversee off site clinics and outreach events. Perform other related duties as assigned.The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health (DOH) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD\'s Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesBachelor\'s degree in Nursing, a current Registered Nurse License and four (4) years of experience in nursing or public health.ORMaster\'s degree in nursing, a current Registered Nurse License and two (2) years of experience in nursing or public health.All applicants must possess or obtain:Valid State of Alaska Driver\'s License at time of hire.Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse License by time of hire OR if an applicant is not currently licensed in Alaska, then a temporary Alaska Nursing License must be obtained by the time of hire. (Regular license must be obtained within 180 days of hire.)Current American Red Cross/American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR) or equivalent within 90 days of hire.Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.DHHS HIPAA certification within 30 days of hire.Preferences:

  • Experience with Disease prevention for Communicable disease and epidemiological investigation related to communicable disease.
  • Experience in public health nursing.
  • Systems management, quality assurance, performance improvement skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to travel to various locations in the community to oversee off site clinics to teach events.

A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual\'s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
