Responsibilities
The Donor Services Tech - Phlebotomist has the following core responsibilities: donor recruitment: telephone recruitment of volunteer blood donors, coordinating multiple appointment schedules based on patient blood product usage and inventory needs. Donor Evaluation and Assessment: Understanding and applying extensive donor criteria which includes medical history, travel locations and lifestyle questions, and regulations of numerous accrediting agencies to ensure patient/donor confidentiality and ensuring a safe blood supply for transfusion. Comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) for manufacturing of blood products to meet quality and safety standards for patient transfusion by following SOP (standard operating procedure) for 1) Obtaining or verifying patient/donor demographics, 2) registration of donors, performing point of care testing and related quality controls : Donor Collection: Following SOP in using aseptic technique to collect unit of blood or blood components, monitoring both the equipment and donors and providing care to donors or patients who have mild, moderate, or severe adverse reactions. Supporting Activities: Proficient use of donor software systems, proficient use and QC of equipment and products, ordering and maintaining work unit supplies. Demonstrates excellence in customer service and public relations to promote a positive, professional image of the Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Center. Demonstrates a commitment to Mayo\'s culture of safety (pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, have a questioning and receptive attitude, hand-off effectively, support each other). Donor Service Technicians must successfully complete a 6-month training course and pass competency evaluations. This training includes classroom instruction, written examinations, and on-the-job training.
**Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic**
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and one year of telemarketing, call center, or customer service experience (appointment scheduler or retail/service industry) and six months vascular access experience as a Phlebotomist, VAT Tech, IV Tech, Blood Donor Tech or have completed an accredited phlebotomy program.
Additional Qualifications:
Associate\'s Degree and coursework in a healthcare related field is preferred. Requires computer skills (i.e., Windows-based applications and intranet/internet use) with the ability to keyboard.
Ability to work independently; be goal directed and have strong organizational skills. Effectively multitask without compromising quality. Excel in both verbal and written communication, including proper telephone etiquette, face-to-face interactions, and electronic communications. Ability to communicate with individuals and small groups with credibility and confidence. Ability to handle difficult situations, remain calm under stress, manage emotional situations, display empathy and maintain positive communication. Turn problems into opportunities by developing innovative and creative solutions. Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, display energy and drive in performing daily responsibilities, and convey an impression which reflects favorably upon the Mayo Blood Donor Program and Mayo Clinic. Must be flexible as well as easily adapt to a changing work environment which will require ongoing maintenance of job-related skills/activities.

License or Certification:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Individuals without BCLS will be required to successfully complete the course within 6 months of employment.
