Job Summary and Qualifications

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
  • Performs accurate analysis of all cardiac anatomy and assimilates appropriate data necessary for interpretation of the study.
  • Assists the physician as needed during procedures and monitors physiological parameters during procedures.
  • Performs job to ensure quality care is provided within defined area of accountability.
  • Completes department appropriate technologist structure reporting protocol as set forth by the accrediting body.
  • Restocks work areas with necessary supplies. Keeps work areas clean and orderly to promote patient safety.
  • Maintains lab equipment to ensure optimal functioning by inspecting for breakdown, troubleshooting and communicating with appropriate repair persons.
  • Submits activity reports as requested.
  • Participates actively in continuing education and assists in education of new staff as requested.
EDUCATION:

Required - High School Diploma, Medical Training

Preferred - Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health or Nursing

EXPERIENCE:

Required - An appropriate credential in echocardiography or vascular sonography from the ARDMS or CCI within six months of hire (dual certification within 18 months/prior to 2017)
  • The technical staff members must meet one of the following criteria:
  • An appropriate credential in echocardiography from the ARDMS or CCI
  • Successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program which includes verified didactic and supervised clinical experience in echocardiography.
  • These programs should be accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
  • Completion of 12 months full time (35 hours/week) clinical echocardiography experience performing echocardiograms plus one of the following:
  • Completion of a formal two year program in another allied health profession.
  • Completion of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree unrelated to a CAAHEP/CMA accredited program or a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in sonography, vascular technology or a minor in some aspect of ultrasound which is not CAAHEP accredited to offer echocardiography/vascular sonography
  • Have an MD, DO degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 months of echocardiography practice experience and the performance of at least 600 echocardiogram/Doppler examinations
Preferred - An appropriate credential in echocardiography from the ARDMS or CCI with five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience

LICENSURE:

Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider
