The Village of Fairport (population 5,500) is in search of a dynamic and customer service-oriented leader to join our team and become our next Electric Meter Tester for the Fairport Municipal Commission (Fairport Electric). The Village of Fairport is a mature and progressive community located in Monroe County, New York, approximately eleven (11) miles southeast of downtown Rochester. The Village is surrounded by the Town of Perinton and is adjacent to the neighboring municipalities of Penfield to the North, Pittsford to the West, Egypt and Macedon to the east, and Victor to the South. The Village provides a full range of municipal services including police, fire, and municipal electric. The Village of Fairport General Fund has a budget of $7 million and approximately 60 employees. Fairport Electric operates with a budget of $32 million with approximately 40 employees. The electric service area consists of the Village of Fairport and the surrounding Town of Perinton and has over 18,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers accounts. Fairport Electric is one of the 40+ municipal electric utilities in NYS and is the second largest system. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: This position serves as part of the electric operations staff for Fairport Electric and is a Monroe County civil service position. The candidate is responsible for the maintenance and repair of electric meter and meter installations along with following New York State testing schedules. The candidate will be responsible for the disconnection of electrical services due to unpaid invoices during normal business hours and after hours. The candidate will be responsible for the planning and installation of metering equipment including single phase and three phase installations along with preparing, documenting, and implementing standards of the utility metering system; troubleshooting metering problems; and inspecting existing and proposed meter installations. In addition to meter duties listed above the position also requires full knowledge of trouble shooting power quality issues and working with customers to rectify issues and assisting in planning and installing electric utility systems including collecting data, performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and related work. Work is performed in accordance with established standards and regulations governing electric utility systems. The employee reports directly to the Meter Foreman and works under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Electrical Operations, supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class, although the incumbent may be required to train and/or guide others in the performance of their work. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Good knowledge of electrical metering procedures and practices involved in the maintenance and testing of electrical distribution meters; good knowledge of local rules, regulations, and guidelines governing electric systems; good knowledge of the care, use and adjustment of electrical testing and measuring instruments and equipment; ability to assist in planning electric utility systems; ability to collect and compile electrical system data. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access Strong work ethic with the ability to adapt to new situations and people and work well with others and perform work accurately. Work is in both the office and physically in the field and should be able to work in all weather conditions and physical condition shall be commensurate with the demands of the position. Ability to multitask and balance various duties. Staying organized while doing so by documenting daily duties and work completed. Manages time well and works well under pressure. Organizational ability; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to help train others in proper electric meter testing, repair, and installation; ability to maintain records. Good judgement; eager and willing to become familiar with company specific programs and software and expand knowledge base and skills. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and socialize with the general public, staff and other related officials. Customer service is the number one priority with a focus on internal and external customers equally. Individuals with a good sense of humor and social skills will be most successful in this professional environment.
The starting salary base range is $60-$80k depending upon qualifications and experience along with a highly competitive benefits package.
