DescriptionIMMEDIATE VACANCY IN DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT:
Requires a valid Hawaii State journey electrician\'s, journey industrial electrician\'s, supervising electrician\'s, or supervising industrial electrician\'s license.Installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and calibrates electronic components of power and
control systems; designs and modifies electrical and electronic circuits to meet operational needs; and performs other related duties as required.Distinguishing Characteristics:This class differs from that of the Electronics Technician II in that the Electronic Technician I independently installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and calibrates electronic components of power and control systems and, in addition, designs and modifies electrical and electronic circuits to meet operational needs; whereas the Electronic Technician II supervises and participates in such work.Examples of DutiesThe following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.

  • Inspects, installs, repairs, overhauls, and calibrates control systems and intercommunicating equipment such as sensing devices, transducers, amplifiers, transmitters, receivers and recorders which utilize mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, chemical, electrical and electronic components employing multiple function circuits, signal integration, digital to analog conversion, P/I conversion, I/V conversion, potted circuits and solid state circuit boards, and/or electro-mechanical traffic signal control equipment such as controllers, coordinators, load switches, detectors, signal monitors and flashers, as applicable.
  • Designs and modifies electronic and electrical circuits to meet varying traffic control requirements, as applicable.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains solar powered emergency telephone systems, as applicable.
  • Operates and maintains electrical, electronic, and other testing equipment.
  • Reads, interprets, and prepares electrical and electronic plans and schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Designs and modifies electrical and electronic circuits to meet varying operational needs.
  • Performs bench tests and adjusts new electronic equipment for maximum operating efficiency.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
  • Operates a motor vehicle.
This is an amendment to the specification for the class, ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN, approved on December 7, 1987, and retitled as ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN I effective December 1, 1998; effective January 16, 2007.APPROVED: January 16, 2007Minimum Qualification RequirementsTraining and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially
equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of journey level work experience which clearly demonstrates competency to perform the duties assigned to this class (including or supplemented by one (1) year of work experience as a journey level electrician, as applicable).License Requirement: Possession of a motor vehicle operator\'s license valid in the State of Hawaii, equivalent to Hawaii Type 3 (and, as applicable, a valid Hawaii State journey electrician\'s, journey industrial electrician\'s, supervising electrician\'s, or supervising industrial electrician\'s license).Knowledge of: principles and theories of electricity and electronics as they apply to the installation, testing, maintenance, repair, design, modification, and calibration of electrical and electronic components and power and control systems; operation and maintenance of various testing and measuring equipment and devices; tools and instruments used in repairing electrical and electronic equipment; applicable governmental rules and regulations; occupational hazards and safety practices of the trade.Ability to: interpret and prepare plans and schematic diagrams of electrical and electronic circuits; use testing and measuring equipment and devices in trouble shooting and in diagnosing defects in electrical and electronic systems; estimate time, labor, and material requirements; keep records; follow oral and written instructions; work with dexterity and safety.Selective Certification:
Specialized knowledges, skills and abilities relating to electrical wiring systems,
equipment and appurtenant fixtures may be required to perform the duties of some of these positions. For such positions, certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of these positions.
