Job Description

Summary:

Small, established private elementary school in midtown Santa Cruz seeking an experienced singing teacher to teach technique and the joy of singing and music to students in grades K-6 once day a week.

Details and responsibilities:

Teach four (4) 45-minute singing/music classes every week to 4 mixed-grade groups of no more than 12 students each, from Kindergarten through 6th grade, from 11:30am to 2:30pm.

In addition, you would be responsible for preparing your students for and attending a Spring Concert each year, a recital where all of the students sing for the parents (among other musical and performing talents). There is a multi-song singing performance for each of our 4 groups of 12 students (roughly two songs per group), as well as an all-school song.

There may be additional hours available every other year to assist with the music performances for our school musical.

Who we are looking for:

A music teacher whose primary focus, experience, and passion is teaching singing and music to elementary-aged children.

The perfect candidate:

This would be an ideal job for an experienced singing teacher looking for enjoyable part-time work in a positive-discipline environment where all their students love to learn, or a new teacher with a passionate vision for the perfect singing curriculum. You must love teaching! You must be enthusiastic, commanding, and compassionate. Students adore you and also understand that when you walk into a room, class has begun. You have a strong desire to help all children grow emotionally, socially, and academically. You want to not only teach children how to sing well but to sing for the joy of it. You love singing and music and know how to teach others to feel the same.

You also ideally already have...

-Previous experience teaching children.

-Experience teaching singing and music.

-A vision for your perfect elementary singing class and curriculum that allows for EVERY student to grow.

-Instruction in positive-discipline techniques, or the patience to learn them.
