HIRING RANGE: $20.31 - $22.86/Hour

About the Position:

The Grand Junction Fire Department is accepting applications for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to fill a current vacancy and create a pool of eligible candidates for future vacancies. As an EMT for our department, you will provide immediate response to emergency and non-emergency calls including minor injuries, sudden illness, and casualties arising from road accidents, criminal violence, fires, and other incidents. This is a single-role EMT position, working on an ambulance, 40 hours/week with occasional overtime.

Duties

What You\'ll Do as an EMT:

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls to provide appropriate medical interventions.
  • Obtain medical data including patient identification, medical history, type of accident or nature of illness, rescue measures preceding emergency care, care given at the scene and during transport, and changes in diagnostic signs.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain reports on EMS activities, incidents, accidents, and other related information.
  • Perform station maintenance.
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain emergency response equipment and vehicles.
  • Participate in public relations, school education programs, group activities, courtesy walk-through visits, and phone inquiries.
  • Perform at the Awareness level at hazardous materials incidents.
  • Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing training related to EMS.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

What We\'re Looking For as an EMT:
  • Colorado EMT Certification OR National Registry EMT Certification upon hire.
  • CPR certificate upon hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver\'s License.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification in the National Incident Management System.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Hazardous Materials Awareness certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver Operator certificate.
  • Must be able to distinguish red and green.
  • Must successfully complete a candidate level 1582 physical.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.
Experience and Training Guidelines for an EMT:

One (1) year of experience in emergency medical services.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Hit and run accident conviction
  • Being under or having been under driving restraint, cancelation, suspension or revocation of driving privileges in Colorado or any other state
