We have a wonderful new job opportunity for an Employee Relations Specialist to join the HR team at Bloodworks Northwest. The incumbent in this role will participate in the development and implementation of HR strategy, programs and policies in support of employee relations, performance management, and providing expertise, coaching and advice on employee relations and employee programs. Works in close partnership with leaders and Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs) on employee relation practices that impact the employee experience. Conducts complex employee relations investigations on subjects including but not limited to harassment, discrimination, and retaliation allegations. Serves as expert on Labor Uses data to assess needs and develop sustainable employee relations training and tools. Contributes to the Workforce Resources team by leading, growing and scaling leadership capabilities in workforce relations.

Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic Employee Relations support, business partnership, thought partnership, and coaching to all levels of the organization
  • Conduct complex employee relations investigations, identify potential solutions to address different case types, and take appropriate action (using guidelines) to bring issues to timely resolution
  • Triage employee relations cases to ensure workload is distributed appropriately with assigned partners
  • Advise direct partners on appropriate legal (EEO, ADA, FMLA, etc.) and organizational compliance
  • Proactively assess team and manager development needs, make recommendations, and implement appropriate solutions, including development of training and tools
  • Partner closely with HR partners on strategy and execution
  • Partner with appropriate supervisors and other cross-functional partners on process improvement and creation of tools and solutions to proactively impact employee relations and employee engagement
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate complex assignments that have an impact in assigned teams
  • Develop, review, and update policy and procedures regarding employee relations issues. Communicate new/updated policies as needed
  • Support employee engagement surveys through management of data both pre- and post-survey, in coordination with HRBPs.
  • Represent the organization at external events as requested.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in HR or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree in Business, Human Resource Management, Organization Development, Industrial Psychology, Management, or related field is desirable.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification (desirable)
  • Four+ years of progressive experience in HR disciplines with a strategic focus with particular emphasis on organization development and talent management, or an equivalent combination of advanced training and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in overall HR management and as trusted advisor and people leader
  • Experience building strong rapport and credibility with constituents as a forward-looking thought leader
  • Experience working with, coaching, and influencing senior leaders
  • Human Resources experience in health care and/or non-profit (desirable)
  • Experience working in a union environment (desirable)
Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:
  • Knowledge of labor and employment laws, federal, state and local regulations with ability to comprehend, interpret and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances and policies
  • Strong HR and business acumen, including problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative
  • Proven ability to influence for impact at all levels and develop an internal network to gain support for best HR practices
  • Must have the ability to diagnose a problem and identify and drive appropriate solutions
  • Flexible in one\'s viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at Bloodworks
  • Ability to navigate cultural and business sensitivities to champion performance, employee engagement and inclusion
  • Superb communication skills
Working conditions:
  • Telecommuting, or virtual working, is the preferred primary working arrangement for this role. However, work on site at a Bloodworks location will be required from time-to-time, on a frequency basis that may vary dependent upon the nature of the work being performed, as well as other factors
  • This position has significant senior leadership contact.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to perform in an environment of ambiguity.
  • As this role routinely uses standard office equipment, job conditions to be expected include extensive computer/viewing monitor work (frequent) and constant standing (rare).
  • This position is responsible for providing support to staff performing work throughout our 24/7 organization. As a result, after-hours work, including evening and weekend meetings, may be required.
  • Because this position may support staff in locations throughout Bloodworks\' service area, travel in western Washington and western Oregon may be required on a regular basis, sometimes with short notice.
  • This is an essential position with direct responsibility to employees supporting donors and/or patients, and incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies.
  • Bloodworks is a community supported non-profit organization. As such, incumbent can expect to work with volunteers.
  • Occasional holiday and weekend work can be expected in this job.
  • When working at Bloodworks facilities, this position has indirect exposure to blood borne pathogens

New Hire Starting Range: $69,950.40 - $102,419.20
