Confirm coverage by reviewing the first notice of loss and policy details.
Prepare coverage position letters, including disclaimers and reservations of rights.
Conduct comprehensive claim investigations to assess liability and damages.
Apply statutory and case law to evaluate liability exposure.
Identify joint tortfeasors and ensure equitable allocation of liability.
Maintain and adjust reserves as claims develop to accurately reflect potential exposure based on liability and damage assessments.
Manage claim files proactively, ensuring efficient resolution through diary management, direct negotiations with claimants or their attorneys, oversight of defense counsel, and review/approval of settlement agreements.
Maintain detailed and substantive claim notes documenting all relevant activity.
Prepare and submit concise reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, coverage position letters, and reports to underwriting and other departments.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide prompt customer service by responding to internal and external inquiries within the same business day while adhering to established claims service standards.
Participate in special projects as assigned.
Engage in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support both professional and personal development, as outlined in the annual Individual Development Plan.
Occasionally travel for mediations, court hearings, and other necessary proceedings.

Technical knowledge of insurance coverage, employment law, and claim evaluation
Minimum Job Requirements:
2+ years of experience
(Associate Claim Examiner) or
7+ years of experience
(Claim Examiner) handling liability claims, including prior roles as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or other transferable experience.
Preferred experience in
employment practices, D&O, and/or E&O claims
, multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees, or a JD.
