Engineering Inspector

Job Description

The Inspector applies construction knowledge to the inspection and estimating of work performed by the Town, contractors, or others in order to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, proper methods, Town standards, State and local codes, etc. He/she must have a thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction. The Inspector must effectively work and communicate with the public, consultants, contractors, coworkers, and Town officials. He/she must enforce requirements firmly and courteously.

Minimum Qualifications:



Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction and maintenance of various public works projects

Working knowledge of engineering principles and practices

Working knowledge of applicable mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry

Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications

Ability to interact effectively with people and to enforce requirements firmly and courteously

Ability to prepare reports and maintain necessary records to support them

Ability to make neat and accurate sketches/drawings

Ability to work outside, year-round, in all weather conditions (humidity, heat, severe cold, rain, snow, etc.)

Ability to function and perform effectively as a team member and individually

Dependability, emotional stability, initiative, resourcefulness

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & Word

Working knowledge of Auto CAD, GIS, and Laserfiche preferred

Special Requirements:



1. Valid Connecticut driver's license

Education and Experience:



1. Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (G.E.D.)

2. Not less than two years of experience in construction and inspection work

3. Customer service experience

4. Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38.68 per hour
