DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Environmental Engineering Trainee, there is a 12-month training period during which time the incumbent will be trained to perform the duties of an Environmental Engineering Specialist. The work products are reviewed by the supervisor before being issued or released.
This position is responsible for assisting in developing, updating, and maintaining the Department\'s design manuals, regulations, forms, and technical guidance documents related to public water system permitting. The individual in this position plays an important role regarding the statewide oversight of drinking water infrastructure improvement projects funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) administered by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) Program. This position is also responsible for assisting with statewide oversight of drinking water infrastructure improvement projects funded by the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act.
This position also provides support to water systems, as directed by the Environmental Engineer Manager, to bolster BIL opportunities for project funding. Collaboration with the PENNVEST-selected third party technical assistance provider for permittees to help ensure applicants are receiving proper guidance relative to the applicable permitting process is also an important responsibility of this position.
