The incumbent is directly responsible for managing the federal grant supporting this program, allocating funding to counties, monitoring results to ensure all grant conditions are met as well as providing training and support to the county level staff.Data management - Managing intranet data collection systems to ensure that all data is collected and accurate.Data Processing - Prepare data for submission to STORET data system at the state level and the PRAWN database at the federal level.Review Beach extents for accuracy and changes. Includes processing updates and changes through EPA.Management of program grant and budget. Conduct program evaluations in counties to ensure the program is being executed correctly and to provide training to county staff.Respond to program inquiries as the statewide point of contact for the Healthy Beaches program.Track Wastewater spill data and DEP beach advisory notifications.Acts as a technical expert for laboratory data concerns and procedures, including being versed in all appropriate analysis methods.Review scientific research published on topics related to water quality monitoring.Works independently to develop, coordinate, implement, analyze, and monitor environmental programs assessing potential human exposure to environmental contaminants.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of environmental public health objectives. Knowledge of current federal grant regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge in GIS systems.
  • Ability to explain technical and scientific ideas to the public.
  • Skills in proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Skills in laboratory regulations and procedures and current methods for testing for fecal coliform, enterococci, and E. coli bacteria.
Qualifications:
  • High Diploma
Preferred
  • 4-year undergraduate science degree (Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts) from a college or university accredited * This degree must be in agriculture, biochemistry, biological science, chemical science, engineering, environmental science, exercise physiology, geology, hydrology, medical sciences, meteorology, nursing, nutrition, oceanography, pharmacy, physics, soil science, or veterinary medicine.
