The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 2 to help us
Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:
This position performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a Category III FAA Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane base, bridges, culverts and guardrails in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable FHWA, FAA, TSA, MSHA and State rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports. This position is responsible for maintaining State airports and highways in safe condition for the traveling public. Job duties including snow and ice control, asphalt patching, vegetation control and pavement striping all directly contribute to Alaskan\'s access to commercial and recreational opportunities, ensuring a high quality of life in our communities.

This position\'s duty station is in Cordova and is part of the Valdez Maintenance & Operations team. The selected candidate will perform numerous year round highway maintenance and operations tasks within the Valdez District boundaries.

  • Skilled in the safe operation of heavy equipment in a construction or highway maintenance setting.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Special Note:
This is journey level position and requires previous CDL level experience.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER\'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT
This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL-104-208). A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" means an offense that:
  • is a misdemeanor under Federal or State Law; and
  • has, as an element the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.
