Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians).DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary; 40 hours per week between Monday through Sunday
LOCATION: 3701 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. AvenueExample of DutiesAssisting mechanics and mechanics leadmen as well as independent inspection, diagnosis and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs deemed critical to preserving the operational and/or safety integrity of Public Transportation Department buses and other Public Transportation Department vehicles and equipment.Services brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive system components; Clean and maintain shop work areas; Respond to vehicle service calls in the field; inspect, mount and replace tires; Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program and two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

Must possess the following:

  • At time of application - Valid driver\'s license - Note: Current valid driver\'s license MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered.
  • At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction. Applicants with a Restriction of "N-No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and Restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible
  • Valid State of Alaska OSHA forklift operator card at time of hire.
OR
  • At time of application - Valid driver\'s license - Note: Current valid driver\'s license MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered.
  • At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Driver\'s License & State of Alaska Commercial Learner\'s Permit (CLP)
  • Within 120 days (approx. 4 months) - must obtain a valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction. Special Requirements:
Incumbents are required to furnish hand tools common to the trade.Preferences:
  • Experience with service and/or repair
  • Experience with web-based software from Cummins, Allison, and Ford.
  • OSHA 30 hour General Industry certificate.
  • AssetWorks Academy for Government Fleet (Cummins or Allison module)
  • ASE Transit Bus Certification
