Job Summary: US Coatings is currently seeking an Estimator for Marine Projects. This position will work closely with the General Manager and Project Managers to develop detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for marine-related projects. Additionally, they will perform job cost reviews and evaluate item costs to ensure production, manpower, and material costs are tailored to the estimate. They will put together a project plan with a detailed schedule that can be submitted with the bid proposal. Minimum of 10 years industry experience required. Industrial, Government, and Navy vessel experience is highly desirable. NACE certifications are highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop highly accurate and timely estimates for several projects across the United States.
  • Prepare labor estimates, cost, and materials required by analyzing drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation for various military and commercial projects.
  • Ensure each bid is accurate and effective for U.S. Coatings by gathering all available information and requirements and setting priorities for each item.
  • Reviews and discusses bids, sales leads, long-range planning.
  • Develops proposal letters, schedules, and documents.
  • Works with job project managers as required for development of Change Order proposals and estimate reviews.
  • Keeps current on pricing of blast grit, equipment rentals, freight charges, subcontractors pricing, fuel, paint, etc.
  • Works with office staff to approve purchase orders, time issues, and job cost projections at month- and year-end.
  • Generates the weekly "Jobs in Progress" report for review and comment and to measure the success (or failure) of planning, estimating, and change orders.
  • Receives and reviews other information as deemed appropriate by General Manager and Project Manager.
  • Takes on other tasks (sales, surveys, public relations, etc.) as deemed necessary or appropriate.
Key Requirements, Education, and Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years working hands-on in a shipyard environment.
  • Minimum 10 years\' experience with marine surface preparation (UHP blasting, grit blasting, power tool cleaning) and coating operations.
  • Must have vast experience on all types of projects (New Construction, Barges, PSV, OSV, Oil Platforms, and numerous vessel repairs) ranging from $25,000 - $6,000,000.
  • Ability to read and understand commercial marine coatings specifications, and familiarity with Military Sealift Command surface preparation standards and coating application guidelines.
  • Ability to review drawings and perform surface area calculations.
  • Understand marine hanging, staging and pole-type scaffolding (erection, use restrictions, dismantling).
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, climb vertical ladders, etc.
  • NACE certifications preferred.
  • Industrial, Government, and Navy vessel experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Travel: Must travel to various job sites as assigned.
