This is what you will do:

Alexion\xe2\x80\x99s partnering portfolio serves collaborators worldwide developing discovery, pre-clinical, clinical, and commercial-stage biopharmaceutical assets in diverse modalities. The Head, Alliance & Integration Management will lead the Alliance & Integration Management (AIM) team reporting into Corporate Strategy & Finance Operations. The individual will work at a senior level with an enterprise-wide remit spanning Commercial, Compliance, Finance, HR, Legal, and R&D. The objective of the position is to support the development of partnering competency as a strategic asset for Alexion and to maximize the value of alliances, acquisitions, and divestitures across their life cycle. The incumbent is responsible for programmatic coherence of the AIM function and a team work product of consistently high quality!

You will be responsible for:

Leadership\xe2\x94\x80

• Viewed as a senior business leader within Alexion and as a seasoned champion of AIM disciplines
• Adept at handling issues of extreme complexity or sensitivity that influence Alexion\xe2\x80\x99s long-term success
• Experience exercising regional or global span of influence, including the ability to influence internal and external decision-makers
• Responsible for progress versus long-term objectives

Strategic Alliance Management\xe2\x94\x80

• Lead AIM strategy and oversee the cross-functional management of Alexion strategic alliances
• Manage a practice group for AIM staff who:
• Attend deal negotiations to ensure optimal AIM practice and seamless transition to launch
• Cultivate mutual understanding between alliance partners and common view of alliance framework
• Support alliance objectives while maintaining adherence to Alexion\xe2\x80\x99s corporate strategy and goals
• Lead all aspects of contractual obligations and be the go-to person on all alliance-related matters
• Develop partner insights to understand partner organization, decision making, and interests
• Serve as primary point of interface for Alexion communication with partners
• Ensure robust alliance meeting management practices
• Proactively identify potential issues and develop risk mitigation plans
• Steward resolution of issues as they arise

Integration Management\xe2\x94\x80

• Lead and support enterprise-wide cross-functional coordination to integrate acquired companies
• Develop risk-mitigated integration strategies for new acquisitions
• Quickly transition acquired asset package to \xe2\x80\x98business as usual\xe2\x80\x99 under Alexion operational control
• As \xe2\x80\x9cintegration reverse engineered\xe2\x80\x9d support asset transfer for divestitures, out-licensing, and carve-outs

AIM Working Group and Partnering Portfolio Management\xe2\x94\x80

• Develop objectives for the AIM function aligned with corporate strategy and goals
• Drive late life cycle governance for partnered programs to ensure progress for integrations, alliances, and divestitures in concert with Commercial and R&D steering committees
• Ensure the development and maintenance collaborative business relationship management system in line with industry best practices and standards
• Ensure cross functional monitoring, coordination and mutual compliance with contractual obligations
• Manage cross-functional process for contractual payment and reporting obligations to partners with sound business controls and defined practice guidelines

Personnel Management\xe2\x94\x80

• Establish objectives, standards, policies, and procedures for AIM staff
• Supervise, manage, and aid the professional development of junior reports acting in support of the above by establishing performance expectations, giving guidance and reviewing results
• Manage AIM team staffing and team-related budget matters
• Demonstrate dedication to the highest standards of integrity and character in keeping Alexion core values

You will need to have:

• Minimum of 18 years of experience combining execution on alliance management best practices with operational leadership for strategy and business development in the biopharma industry, including 2+ years managing teams of AIM professionals and manager-level staff
• Graduate degree in an allied discipline (MA, JD, MBA, PhD)
• Proven success as a cross-functional leader able to influence others in a matrix environment
• Multi-disciplinary scientific, legal, and financial expertise with substantial experience mentoring alliance managers and allied professionals in the field of biopharma partnering, drug discovery and development, project management, deal negotiation, IP asset and contract management, as well as budget oversight and financial reporting
