Position Description:
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is a prestigious and diverse research facility that plays a vital role in the study of the universe. The Observatory operates a variety of radio telescopes that span the globe, including the famous Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. These telescopes are among the most advanced in the world, allowing astronomers to explore the universe in unprecedented detail.
At the NRAO, we have an employment opportunity for a Facilities Manager position to lead an Observatory-wide approach to sustainability, infrastructure maintenance, and risk identification. The NRAO facilities are located in a variety of environments including college and university campuses, office developments, other federal lands, and remote dedicated spaces without municipal services. Our manager will support leases and vehicle management, energy management, and creation and maintenance of site Master Plans. This position will work closely with the Environmental, Health and Safety Department to assure physical security of NRAO sites and property.
The location for the position will be based at our headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia. The NRAOs retirement benefit contributes an amount equal to 10 percent of a qualified participants base pay. No contribution is required of the employee; we also offer an optional supplemental, tax-deferred plan for employee retirement contributions.
