Job Description

The Firefighter supports the Installation Support Services (ISS2) contract on Wake Island.

This position requires employees work on-site at Wake Island, located approximately 2,200 miles west of Honolulu, Hawaii. The government provides sponsored-aircraft transportation between Honolulu and Wake Island. The program provides meals and housing to employees while working on Wake Island. Housing is dormitory-style and employees receive meals through the cafeteria. The firefighter position is perfect for someone who enjoys being away for long periods of time with occasional scheduled trips back to Honolulu.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Controls and extinguishes fires on the Island.
• Drive and operate firefighting vehicles.
• Perform crash, rescue, and firefighting duties at airfields handling large or complex aircraft (e.g. fighters, cargo, and passenger).
• Perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities.
• Perform search and rescue of personnel.
• Perform or initiate a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepares victims(s) for transport to a medical facility.
• Evaluate emergency medical situations and perform duties as a DOT First Responder or equivalent.
• Maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
• Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures
• Participate in the physical fitness, respiratory protection and hearing conservation program.
• Perform daily inspection, maintenance and upkeep of firefighting apparatus, tools and equipment.
• Participate in required training activities, including afterhours exercises and readiness inspection callouts.
• Perform the essential job functions outlined in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582
• Performs collateral duties and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years\' experience controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade.
• Trained IAW TO 00-105-E-9 for aircraft shut down and exterior fires/not including interior fires or egress for aircraft and NFPA Code 1003.
• Valid Driver\'s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Demonstrated ability to regularly lift and move a minimum of 100 pounds.
• Demonstrated fluent ability to speak, read, and comprehend English.
• Demonstrated dexterity using and manipulating firefighter tools and equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to use basic Microsoft computer programs.
• Demonstrating vision abilities as required by the job including discerning colors, contrast, and depth.
• Successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquires background investigation.
• Successfully pass and continue to pass the NFPA 1582 pre-employment and annual physical and drug tests.

Required Certifications

• Certified Firefighter I/II (DoD, PROBOARD, or IFSAC)
• Certified Driver Operator -- Pumper (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• Certified Driver Operator -- ARFF (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• Mobile Water Supply (MWS) (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• Certified Airport Firefighter (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• FEMA/NIMS 100, FEMA/NIMS 200,FEMA/NIMS 700, FEMA/NIMS 800

Preferred Qualifications

• Telecommunicator I/II (DoD, PROBOARD, or, IFSAC)
• Five (5) years\' experience controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade.
