However, we encourage candidates to apply as the Fish & Wildlife Technician Entry level ($3,218-$3,948/mo.), as the department may consider under-filling the position.WHAT YOU WILL DO:The primary role of this position is to play a crucial role in supporting our work unit by caring for fish throughout the complete hatchery cycle, performing maintenance on grounds and equipment, and assisting in achieving assigned management goals within a fish hatchery environment. Some of the duties will include:Care for fish and perform grounds and equipment maintenance and other related duties. Pond, feed, grade, and collect eggs from wild and hatchery fish; shock, pick, and enumerate eggs; regulate water supplies; remove mortality; and recognize and treat fish diseases.Record and maintain information on amount and type of feed received and fed, water quality, fish mortalities, and liberations. Weigh, count, and load fish and eggs for transfer and liberation.Maintain, construct, and perform minor repairs to ponds and walkways, fish feeders, egg trays, and screens. Maintain and repair hatchery buildings and residences, fish pumps, lawn mowers, power tools, roads, and trails.Maintain equipment, grounds (lawns, flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees), operate facility equipment and answer questions from the public.Power wash, paint, repair, and maintain buildings, fishponds, and fish culture structures, and clean rearing ponds.Operate special equipment including trucks, lawn tractors, generators, fish pumps, lifts, gas and electric power tools, farm tractors with attachments. May operate heavy equipment (forklift, tractor) on weathered roads in inclement weather.Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor. Position is eligible for overtime. May work weekends and long hours.At times will need to be available on call.Must be able to work and communicate effectively with ODFW, other government agencies, and members of the public.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFish & Wildlife Technician:An Associate\'s degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture, Aquarium Science, Wildlife Technology or Agriculture;- OR -Eighteen months of experience in fisheries, fish culture, fish screens, care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming.A higher level degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate\'s degree.Note: You do not need to meet the Fish & Wildlife Technician minimum qualifications to be considered: the department may consider underfilling at the Fish & Wildlife Technician Entry level.Fish & Wildlife Technician Entry Option - Underfill:Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications.
