POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Member Experience Director, the Fitness Experience Specialist interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals and in developing self-management skills consistent with sustained health behavior change. The Fitness Experience Specialist creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities. He/She instructs members on use of equipment through orientations, assist with member questions and concerns, and provide excellent member service. This includes the daily operation of the wellness center. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Deliver wellness orientation program to safely and effectively introduce new Y members to branch offerings
  • Follow strength training and nutritional guidelines of the YMCA of USA
  • Monitor all areas of the wellness center, including free weight, cardio and select machine areas
  • Seek to learn members\' names and welcome them personally
  • Engage with members on the wellness floor and in group exercise classes. This includes talking with, assisting, demonstrating and enhancing their YMCA experience
  • Monitor members on fitness equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Stay current with advances in the health and wellness field
  • Document quality interactions, set goals, and promote programs to YMCA members. Employee must meet the measurables set by their supervisor.
  • Assure Wellness work area and equipment are kept clean throughout the day, sanitizing frequently, particularly before and after member use.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently working towards an Associate\'s or Bachelor\'s degree in an exercise or health and wellness field from an accredited University is required.
  • Position requires 6 months to 1-year experience in the health and wellness field.
  • A current certification from one of the following nationally recognized organization- ACSM, ACE, AFFA, CES, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NETA, WITS or YMCA Group Exercise or Strength and Conditioning Instructor certification is preferred.
  • CPR/AED certifications must be current.
  • Must have technical skills in the operations and use of a variety of fitness equipment.
