Bethea State Forest.Assists with the preparing, implementing and monitoring of the John M. Bethea State Forest Resources Management Plan. Activities include directing, guiding and providing leadership in the major program areas of reforestation, restoration, geographic information systems, global positioning systems, wildlife habitat, prescribed fire, easements, land acquisition and land disposition, forest product sales and recreation. Responsible for contract management and maintaining documentation on state forest activities. This position may be required to assist with Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work.Provides technical assistance in developing prescribed burning plans to ensure minimum impact of smoke and maximum use of assigned resources. Ensures post burn evaluations are completed in a timely manner thus confirming sound forest management objectives are met, participates in burns conducted by helicopter, and by hand; secures the necessary training to conduct and participate in prescribed burning safely.Provides technical oversight and field assistance with all areas of land management, i.e., timber management, forest inventory, reforestation, exotic species control and forest education.Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida\'s open burning laws and regulation.Maintains contact with cooperating agencies, environmental organizations, organized user and advisory groups and adjacent landowners to ensure cooperative efforts and gain input into the management of the forest.Keeps abreast and knowledgeable of forestry topics, ecosystems management and rare, threatened and endangered species laws.Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with Florida Forest Service and department policies and procedures.Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.The Following Special Benefits for this Position Include
