DescriptionParks and Recreation, Juneau Pools is looking for a person to join
our dynamic team as a Full Time Head Lifeguard at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.**** WE ARE OFFERING A $3000.00 SIGN ON BONUS **** This position is under the direction of the Pool Supervisor. The incumbent supervises temporary positions including swim instructors, aquatic attendants, and lifeguards. The incumbent oversees pool operations in the absence of the Pool Supervisor. Aquatic staff enjoy flexibility in scheduling as well as a complimentary pool pass for the employee.WORKING HOURS AND LOCATIONThis position will primarily work at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool, but may also be asked to work at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. Our facilities are open to the public seven days a week from 5:00am-8:30pm Monday-Friday and 9:00am-6:00pm on weekends.This position will primarily be working 1:15pm-8:30pm Monday through Friday.Typical ResponsibilitiesOpens and closes pool facility. Inspects facility for cleanliness and for unusual circumstances before opening the facility for public use. Monitors facility public use areas for cleanliness and directs staff to clean as needed. Cleans, sweeps, mops the natatorium, and shovels snow as needed. Responsible for vacuuming the pool on a daily basis.Tests and records water chemical levels for chlorine and pH levels as well as alkalinity, calcium hardness, and salinity levels. Adds pool chemicals as directed by the Pool Supervisor.Checks sauna for correct temperature settings and ON/OFF operation. Monitors air quality. Reports any issues with the facility regarding maintenance, water, and air quality to the facility supervisor.Performs Lifeguard duties as needed. Responds to emergencies and performs first aid. Enforces facility rules regarding use of pool, exercise area, and general public areas.Provides staff necessary items to perform their duties (i.e., the cash till for Aquatic attendants). Checks that all staff are on duty as scheduled. Observes on-duty staff including Aquatic Attendants, Lifeguards, and Aquatic Instructors.Reports to the Pool Supervisor regarding employee performance. Refers to the Pool Supervisor, any problems or disciplinary measures experienced with Pool employees.Records rental attendance makes reports on facility attendance, revenue, accidents/injuries and complaints. Attends staff meetings and scheduled in-services. Reports to the manager on needed repairs and unusual situations. Assists with daily transmittals and bank deposits.Assists with coordination and personnel staffing of aquatic fitness and lesson programming.May use personal vehicle for facility errands, bank runs, etc.Minimum QualificationsExperience: N/AOther: Certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent; ANDCurrent First Aid and CPR certificates, ANDAt least 18 years of age at time of appointment.Desired Qualification:Certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or other specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking as appropriate is highly desirable but not required.Supplemental InformationSPECIAL NOTICE - SIGN ON BONUS
The sign on bonus will be paid in two equal installments, less mandatory deductions. Employees will be eligible for the first $2000.00 installment once the employee begins working.
