Job Purpose

The Communication & Events Coordinator provides communications and event coordination support for the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) centralized outreach efforts, including the Opportunity Northeast Initiative. Reporting to CCE leadership team, the Communications & Events Coordinator will work closely with colleagues in University Marketing & Communications (Marcom) and the Opportunity Northeast Leadership Team.

Function Details

  • Develops and implements centralized communication strategy for CCE, including the Opportunity Northeast Initiative.
  • Works under the direction of the CCE leadership team to implement Opportunity Northeast and departmental branding, marketing, and communications strategies.
  • Creates and communicates project schedules and deadlines to leadership team, Opportunity Northeast Communications Workgroup, and all necessary stakeholders.
  • Writes copy and edits contributions from others for a variety of print and online materials, including quarterly updates, reports, newsletters, and brochures.
  • Coordinates publication and distribution of student and faculty brochures, the CCE annual report, quarterly newsletters and other print material.
  • Serves as editor and webmaster of the CCE and Opportunity Northeast web pages.
  • Works closely with CCE Leadership Team to support student leader and volunteer recruitment efforts, communication, and processes.
  • Develops targeted list-serv announcements for student, faculty, and community constituents.
  • Updates and facilitates Opportunity Northeast and CCE presentations, as needed.
  • Supervises Marketing Interns. Supports interns in the design of CCE-related print materials, posters, flyers, and promotional materials as well as maintaining Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts to ensure regular and timely social media postings.
  • Photographs CCE and Opportunity Northeast events for reports, marketing and web-based materials.

  • Works collaboratively with CCE program teams to develop all outreach efforts, from print materials to online registration and robust social media presence.
  • Attends program team meetings to develop deeper understanding of outreach/recruitment needs.
  • Lead logistical coordination for centralized CCE events, such as Community Engagement Symposium (as needed), Annual Leader Recognition, fundraising and other Opportunity Northeast related events, etc.
  • Supports other significant projects as they arise.

  • Works in partnership with GU\'s University Marketing and Communications (Marcom) department to develop Opportunity Northeast video, online, and print materials.
  • Attends Marcom campus Marketing Coordinator meetings.
  • Meets with Senior Director of Marketing & Communications at least once per month to review projects and upcoming Opportunity Northeast communication priorities.
  • Attends marketing related Student Affairs meetings and updates the CoP events calendar.

Minimum Qualifications
  • HS diploma/GED, or Vocational / Associates / Technical degree plus 4 years of professional communications experience OR Bachelor\'s Degree plus 2 years of professional communications experience.
  • Strong desktop publishing, web site design and social media skills.
  • Proven skills in event planning and marketing.
  • Excellent verbal skills, journalistic perspective writing skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills in a team setting.
  • Deadline driven and consistent.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative and respectful relationships with community stakeholders, including but not limited to families of color, immigrant and refugee families, and other historically marginalized communities.
