The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) is based in Chinle, Arizona (Northeast Arizona near Canyon De Chelly National Monument). Strong Navajo cultural traditions exist within the community, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo language or learn about traditional Navajo medicine. The service unit is located on the Colorado Plateau with excellent opportunities for photography, hiking, running, road biking, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is within 5 miles of the hospital and is a wonderful place for exploring and sightseeing, running, and mountain biking.

Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF)

The CCHCF provides medical care for approximately 35,000 Navajo citizens. Serving a rural area, many of the patients travel 100 miles round trip to receive care and do not have electricity or running water in their homes. In addition, most of the elderly patients speak only Navajo and live according to traditional Navajo cultural practices. The CCHCF and Ambulatory Care Center is a 60-bed inpatient hospital and outpatient facility. Services offered include:

General Surgeon - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• The General Surgeon will encompass both inpatient and outpatient and provide Surgery Physician services to Client patients.
• Shall serve as a staff surgeon and surgical consultant. Examines, diagnoses, and treats surgical by means diseases and injuries. Will perform major surgical operations including such operations as gastro colostomy.
• Shall visit the surgery ward to ensure that patients are receiving the problem medical care; will review clinical records to develop an opinion of the effectiveness of the attending medical officer and to ensure that records are properly maintained.
• The surgeon shall refer patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at local Client facilities.
• Shall be familiar with the cultural, social, political, geographic, demographic, economic, and epidemiological characteristics of the patients that the community serves.

Job Type - REQUIREMENTS

• Experience: Must have completed five years of general surgery residency training with a minimum of 6 months\' experience in the specialty required.
• Certification/License/Registration: Shall be board certified or board eligible with the American Board of General Surgery, and shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted appropriate license in any state, with the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
