Collect genetic testing consent from patients face to face.
Enter personal and family history, test results, and other information into pedigrees housed in the Progeny database.
Complete test requisitions to outside genetic testing labs via electronic and paper formats.
Package biological samples for outside lab analysis.
Communicate with genetic counselors for testing information and gather patient medical information from the electronic medical record.
Manage insurance authorization processes through established testing criteria with occasional phone contact with outside labs and patients if further information is needed.
Maintain a patient database for all Division of Cancer Genetics and Prevention patients who undergo genetic counseling at satellite, affiliate, and main campus locations.
Prepare and distribute genetics patient letters.
Recognize time sensitive issues and appropriately respond using standard operating procedures and critical thinking skills.
Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless coverage and task management in times of full and partial staffing levels.
Ensure quality clinical care and adherence to standard operating procedures and compliance requirements.
May interact with outside laboratories and insurance companies.
Meet regularly with team members for assessment and quality improvement issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor\'s Degree required
0-1 years of administrative and/or customer service experience preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and cancer genetics is a plus
Experience working in a medical or scientific research setting or comparable technology orientated business environment preferred.
Ability to comprehend and implement new concepts or modifications to processes requests quickly.
Ability to function as an integral member of the team.
Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Must possess the ability to multi-task and problem solve on the spot.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and relate effectively with diverse groups of patients, medical personnel, and research staff via in-person, phone, and e-mail contact.
PC proficiency required.
