Golf course maintenance workers, also known as groundskeepers, perform a variety of tasks to maintain the appearance and functionality of a golf course. These tasks include mowing, watering, and repairing the course, and maintaining equipment and reporting issues.
Responsibilities
Mowing: Mow greens, fairways, tees, and rough areas
Watering: Water turf areas by hand or with irrigation systems
Raking: Rake bunkers and other areas
Trimming: Trim trees, shrubs, and cart paths
Applying chemicals: Spray fertilizers and pesticides as directed
Repairing: Repair turf, irrigation systems, and ball washers
Planting: Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees
Removing debris: Remove debris from the course and club house area
Cleaning: Clean restrooms, ball washers, and break areas
Equipment maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on equipment, such as oil changes and sharpening blades
Reporting issues: Report equipment problems, issues, or failures to a supervisor
Skills
Ability to use hand and power tools, including chain saws, industrial mowers, and tractors
Ability to operate motor vehicles, such as pickup trucks, snowplows, and backhoes
Ability to make rational decisions
Ability to communicate detailed instructions to other workers
Ability to perform visual inspections
