About the Department

The Marketing and Communications Department set our brand tone. They construct and magnify stories and messages to help and inspire people through running, across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. They connect with the world\'s best athletes and ambassadors to deepen NYRR\'s mission. They leverage channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR\'s initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life. Broadcast & Video Production team oversees NYRR\'s live television broadcasts, including the TCS New York City Marathon and United Airlines NYC Half, and manages the organizations video content creation with a focus on developing compelling and entertaining video content around existing events, programs, and initiatives to raise awareness, drive engagement, and attract monetization opportunities for the organization.

About the Position

In this newly created function, the Head of Brand Content will lead the increased development and enhanced creation of produced and distributed video/audio content and programming. This role will report to the SVP, Marketing & Communications and oversee the Broadcast, Video/Photo and Experiential Programming Teams. As the Head of Content, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of our brand and events through compelling and engaging produced content, with a specific focus on broadcast media, video/photo content, new media and scripted content.

Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

  • Develop a clear and inspiring vision for the content team (implementing a content strategy) that aligns with the overall organizational business objectives and marketing brand strategy.
  • Ensure content initiatives support the company\'s long-term goals and enhance the brand\'s position in the running and fitness industry.
  • Provide strategic guidance in the delivery of high-quality content from concept to production (storytelling)
  • Negotiate with broadcast partners/content producers and have a deep understanding of content production.
  • Oversight of staff responsible for broadcast operations and production of TCS New York City Marathon and other NYRR marquee races that feature a broadcast media production component.
  • Oversight of staff responsible for video content development for optimal storytelling and photography capture, curation and archiving for brand activation.
  • Oversight of staff responsible for development of experiential programming (Expo/RUN Center), podcast, new media, and production innovation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Finance teams to develop and manage the content budget.
  • Ensure effective and optimal resource allocation to maximize the impact of content initiatives.
  • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions, optimize content strategies, and demonstrate the impact of content on organizational goals.
  • Utilize data and analytics to refine and optimize content strategies based on audience behavior and preferences.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and content marketing innovations to propose and implement effective and industry leading strategies.
Job Requirements:

Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years\' experience in a position requiring leadership, analytical skills, and expertise with Content.
  • Experience working in broadcast media and/or video production, with a proven track record of developing and executing content strategies in this domain.
  • Experience in photo and video production, with a focus on both traditional photography and video content creation for storytelling and fan engagement purposes.
  • Experience in managing programming for live stage events, including the coordination of schedules and production support.
  • Experience managing and collaborating with broadcast media partners, video production firms and event producers.
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in marketing, communications, media, or video production preferred, but not required

  • Willingness to work various weekends and extended hours as needed.
Other Requirements:
  • Prior experience with the latest video production software platforms, equipment, and content creation tools
  • Familiarity with podcast production and distribution and other new media platforms for audience engagement and revenue generation opportunities.
  • Knowledge of the burgeoning content dissemination channels and an understanding of how digital/social platforms can collaborate to further drive content distribution.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work with, and operate, video production equipment, as needed (video camera, audio equipment, etc.)
Salary: $120,000 - $145,000/year
