The Job
Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products seeks a Health Physicist to join our team. This position monitors radiation safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local radiation regulations, and ensures a safe workplace environment. Assists with the development and implementation of operational radiation safety programs including decontamination, surveys and monitoring, and radioactive waste management.
Duties: * Conduct all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, and company policies and procedures
Ensure compliance of company work practices and policies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations
Provide radiological surveillance support for production activities covered by Special Radiological Work Permits (SRWPs)
Work and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectors
Process laboratory wastewater and administer wastewater permit.
Collect, prepare, package and assay radioactive waste for disposal
Provide assistance with receipt of radioactive materials and radioactive returns
Log receipt of returns and waste disposal in company\xe2\x80\x99s radioactive materials tracking database.
Provide assistance with analyzing waste samples and coordinating waste disposal shipments
Evaluate internal and external radiation doses received by employees, visitors or members of the public
Conduct radiological assessment of laboratory operations, making recommendations for improvement and reduction in dose
Develop and review Health Physics procedures
Repair, maintain and calibrate survey instruments as required
Conduct and maintain inventory and leak test of sealed sources
Develop and conduct radiation safety training for employees
Maintain/review Health Physics records
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in health physics or related subject with 2-3 years radiological laboratory experience. Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in health physics preferred
3-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in health physics related activities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, etc.
HAZWOPR and Certified Shipper certifications a plus
Experience with radiation detection instrumentation, internal/external/area radiation dose evaluations, performing radiation safety surveys, and overall radiation program monitoring and management
Experience with performing calculations and analysis related to radiation dose effluent monitoring
Solid, comprehensive working knowledge/understanding of radiation safety including laws and regulations
Detail oriented, organized, excellent written and verbal skills
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Able to use small power-tools
Able to demonstrate training in the following subjects (NUREG 1556, Section 8.7.1):
Radiation Protection Principles
Characteristics of Ionizing Radiation
Units of Radiation Dose and Quantities
Radiation Detection Instrumentation
Biological Hazards of Exposure to Radiation
NRC and California Regulatory Requirements and Standards
Hands-on Use of Radioactive Materials
Available to work overtime as necessary
