Church Hill Academy (CHA) is the East End\xe2\x80\x99s own fully-accredited, private, Christian high school. CHA is part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), a nonprofit organization that serves youth through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment activities, and community partnerships. From its inception, CHA has sought to propel CHAT\xe2\x80\x99s mission and values in an academic setting for 9th-12th grade students and to prepare them for success after high school. We seek to empower students to become leaders and culture-makers. Our school\xe2\x80\x99s mission statement: Church Hill Academy equips high school students to achieve academic success, develop character, and serve their community.

Math Teacher is a professional position that is part of the Church Hill Academy teaching team. The incumbent will provide dynamic classroom leadership and instruction, teach a variety of core high school Math courses and electives, and maintain a well-managed classroom. We seek a dynamic Math instructor with strong content knowledge of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus who teaches in engaging ways. This position requires an awareness of the urban student\xe2\x80\x99s context and a resolve to teach in culturally competent ways, and in small classroom settings. Church Hill Academy is committed to trauma informed care; we seek instructors who view their students as whole people. Full-time instructors will be asked to teach three sections of a course in their field per semester as well as various assigned duties as needed, with a daily planning period of 80 minutes every school day. The Math Teacher reports to the School Principal and supervises no staff.

Essential Duties

  • Reports from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Attends a weekly CHA Staff Meeting, Tuesdays from 3:10 PM \xe2\x80\x93 4:10 PM
  • Prepares lesson plans that meet or exceed Virginia Standards of Learning in regard to pacing and course content;
  • Creatively engages students through differentiated instruction;
  • Exhibits a genuinely caring attitude to all students;
  • Maintains a positive, calm attitude and voice in the classroom;
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, volunteers, and parents;
  • Incorporates appropriate instructional technology often;
  • Attends various, limited after school activities such as Orientation, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and special seasonal events;
  • Establishes classroom routines that align with best teaching practices;
  • Follows the CHAT Employee Manual and adhere to CHAT\xe2\x80\x99s mission and values;
  • Abides by and hold students accountable to the CHA Family Handbook;
  • Attends at least one off-site Professional Development session for Math teachers per year

Required Qualifications
  • Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles\xe2\x80\x99 Creed and lived out in a faith community
  • A high school diploma or the equivalent and a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field such as Education or a scientific discipline from an accredited college or university;
  • Secondary Education teaching experience OR:
  • enrollment in a state-recognized teacher licensure program;
  • at least one year of programmatic experience with high school students;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of the English language
  • An intentional and practiced commitment to serving and engaging community in the East End
Preferred Qualifications
  • VA Professional Teachers Licensure with an endorsement in high school math
Position Overview & Compensation
  • Full-time, reports to school from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Exempt from overtime
  • Base salary of $48,727
  • Additional compensation for job-related pay factors (eduction, license, etc.)
  • $2,500 sign-on bonus

Special Conditions
