We want you, apply and work with us today!The Laboratory of Immunogenetics and Transplantation (LIT) is the support laboratory for the local transplant programs. LIT Laboratory serves Oregon Health & Science University transplant programs (kidney, heart, pancreas, liver and bone marrow), the VA transplant program (kidney, pancreas, liver), Legacy Health Systems combined transplant programs (kidney & pancreas), Providence Hospital (heart) and the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank (PNTB), an OPO. In addition, the LIT provides support for regional and national transplant programs. The LIT provides clinical and investigative functions, the primary purpose to ascertain optimum donor and recipient combinations and optimum immunosuppressive regimens.The Histocompatibility Technologist performs laboratory tests including HLA tissue typing, antibody screening and identification, crossmatch between recipients and potential donors and ABO blood type which provide data used in the evaluation and treatment of transplant patients. Often the Histocompatibility Technologist is required to provide complex analysis of the test data to help providers make the best-informed decisions for the patients.The person filling this position will be of professional demeanor and perform their duties with an attitude, which will best serve the clients of the department Function/Duties of Position:HISTOCOMPATIBILITY AND IMMUNOGENETICS TESTING
  • Evaluate patient profiles and perform a battery of Histocompatibility tests needed to determine patient acceptability as a transplant candidate, and to determine optimum matching between donor/recipient pairs. Employees at this level are often required to use a high degree of technical judgment and decision making to ensure the most accurate and informative test results.
  • Provide technical interpretation of test results to physicians, surgeons or other health professionals
  • Perform Deceased Donor Work-up as necessary including but not limited to ABO type and subtype; tissue type on donor; antibody identification; reviewing a UNOS match-run; virtual and/ or physical prospective crossmatches as the on-call technologist
  • Communicates with CLA (Cascade Life Alliance), the OPO for UNOS Region 6, Buckeye Transplant Services, healthcare personnel and other organizations during deceased donor work-up
  • Adhere to the laboratory\xe2\x80\x99s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibration
ORGANIZATION OF SPECIMENS, TESTING AND RECORDS
  • Organize patient testing schedule
  • Log in patient samples and order tests in Histotrac database; process specimens according to LIT testing algorithm
  • Maintain LIT sample log with appropriate tests ordered and billed
  • Report results in EPIC as needed; Run lab tests in Beaker according to the requests from providers; pull Epic orders in Beaker as dictated by in-basket messages from providers
  • Create patient reports using Excel Utilities or Histotrac Database report query
REAGENTS AND EQUIPMENT
  • Prepare and maintain reagents, supplies and media used in HLA testing
  • Maintain lab reagent inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment on a regular basis by running required calibration and quality control materials
  • Perform required daily/weekly and monthly maintenance and document record or performance
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory\xe2\x80\x99s established performance specifications.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree AND completion of a training program or one year of experience performing molecular techniques in a clinical laboratory; CHT (ABHI), MB (ASCP), or MT/MLS/CLS certification preferred OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience; CHT (ABHI)
  • General knowledge of Federal regulations and inspection and inspection agency standards governing clinical laboratories.
  • General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials and techniques, regulations and safety.
  • Skill in handling of laboratory specimens, record keeping and laboratory equipment.
  • General knowledge of and skill in application of information management and computer applications
  • Effective communication skills
  • General knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, immunology and immunogenetics
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately, and operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines, to adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and apply problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate performance of job duties to trainees.
  • Demonstrate personal integrity, efficiency, and ability to adjust to rapidly changing testing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment and display technical skills at many different workstations throughout the laboratory.
  • Skill in preparing appropriate laboratory reagents, solutions and media used in the lab; organizing and maintaining lab supplies.
  • Must have valid OR driver\xe2\x80\x99s license

  • Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT)
  • Experience as a histocompatibility technologist
  • MT(ASCP), MLT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), CLS(ASCP), MB (ASCP) or CHT(ABHI), CHS(ABHI)
Additional Details:Pay Range: $37.61 - $51.63 per hour
  • Monday to Friday days (32 hours per week) with rotating weekly on-call schedule for deceased donor work-up; while on-call, be available 24/7; Rotating holidays; exposure to blood and body fluids, chemical hazards; wearing gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time
  • Ability to work the long hours necessary to complete a deceased-donor workup.
  • Positions in laboratory departments require the ability to carry and lift up to 30 lbs.; ability to stand or sit for 4-8 hours depending on the tasks assigned; ability to bend, reach, and carry as required for assigned tasks; ability to utilize simple and complicated laboratory equipment and computers; ability to utilize multi-line phones, pagers, and office equipment.
