The Frozen Section Laboratory is a fast-paced department responsible for retrieving specimens from the operating room (OR) and bringing them into the laboratory where they are entered into the laboratory information system and prepared for freezing. Once reviewed, the diagnosis is given to the surgeon in the OR via intercom.As a Histology Technician/Histotechnologist in the Pathology Frozen Section Laboratory, you will have a rewarding career impacting the diagnosis of Mayo Clinic patients. These technical procedures may include accessioning specimens, specimen processing and microtomy techniques, paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Technical staining procedures include routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. Participates in on-call rotations, including weekends as needed.Histotechnologist:Prepares specimens and performs testing procedures on pathology specimens that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and/or prognostic analysis by the pathologist. Applies technical theory to provide overall operational support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities.*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.QualificationsHistology Technician (HT):
