Operates and maintains medium duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks, skid steer loaders, aggregate spreaders, belt loaders and combination tractors with side mounted mowers. Works in the Hot Crew to Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repair to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Operates chain saw in the removal of trees from right-of-way. Repairs potholes and base surface failures of roadway using hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake and asphalt lute to level asphalt as needed. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. This position requires employee to lift heavy objects. Assists in the installation of driveways using hand tools, hand tamp, placing aggregates, removing and reinstalling mailboxes and placing large sections of pipe. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations (snow/ice, hurricanes, etc.) to include operating medium equipment. May include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Six (6) months of related work experience; or relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator\'s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
