What is a Human Resources Director?

The Human Resource Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and goals of Vail Place Human Resources, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s mission and talent strategy. This position works alongside the Finance Team to facilitate the routine functions and needs of payroll and benefits administration. Areas of responsibility include: full cycle recruiting and offboarding; administering pay, benefits, and leave (FMLA and personal leave of absence); leading staff trainings on and ensuring compliance with company policies and practices, as well as ensuring employer compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Human Resources Director will be the initial point of contact with supervisors, serving as a supportive resource and partner in achieving our mission through day-to-day support of performance management needs and goals. The Human Resources Director is part of the senior management team (SMT).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

  • Collaborates with the Senior Leadership Team to understand and execute the organization\xe2\x80\x99s human resource and talent strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Directly supervises the Human Resources Coordinator.
  • Administrate HRIS/payroll/ATS systems and inputs.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to supervisors (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Administers or oversees the administration of Vail Place human resources initiatives and programs including, but not limited to: compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Summarizes findings from exit interviews and discusses trends and concerns with Senior Leadership Team.
  • Promptly conducts investigations pursuant to complaints and allegations of ethical wrongdoing, harassment, discrimination, or conflicts of interest. Prepares written investigative reports or outsources additional investigation as necessary.
  • Provides support and guidance to management and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, administrating FMLA or personal leaves of absence, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include: recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of human resource management experience required; at least one year of direct supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) highly desired.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now highly desired; experience with web-based HRIS system required.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 platform and related applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range $85,000 to $95,000, Depending on Qualifications. Full Benefits Package including medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, long term disability, matched 401K. Paid time off in Year 1 includes generous vacation & sick/safe time, plus 3 personal days and 13 paid holidays.
