The Department of General Services, (DFM) delivers operational and mission critical services 24 hours a day seven days a week on behalf of County residents and Montgomery County Government. DFM manages over 400 County buildings, ensuring they are maintained at the highest level to provide a comfortable environment for employees and the public.
About the Position:
The Department of General Services, Division of Facilities Management seeks an interested individual to be responsible for journeyman level work involving the installation, operation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of new and existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated equipment located in commercial sized-government facilities throughout Montgomery County. This is journey level work involving the installation, operation, modification, repair, troubleshooting and testing of new and existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated equipment. Duties also include performing routine and complex preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment. The employee will be responsible for removing, calibrating, overhauling, and replacing associated instruments and controls in the air conditioning, ventilating and heating systems pumps, chemical feeders, valves, traps, boilers, burners, monitors and other safety devices. This employee will also install, maintain and repair refrigeration equipment which includes refrigerators, freezers, and drinking fountains.
This position is considered Essential. Essential employees are required to respond or may be placed on stand-by duty during severe weather or other urgent conditions. Employee must have the ability to work standby shifts and respond to after-hours emergency service calls. Work schedule may change to include weekends and/or evenings as part of the regular workweek.
The selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-placement medical exam and drug/alcohol screening.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Completion of a recognized apprentice HVAC program.
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: None.
