Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsibilities include direct nursing intervention provided to a variety of age populations and diagnostic categories, based on the physician developed treatment plan and established priorities, for wound care issues including, but not limited to:
  • Identifying potential cause(s) of delayed wound healing; such as vascular disease, infection,
  • diabetes, other metabolic disorders, immunosuppression, unrelieved pressure, radiation
  • injury, tobacco use, patient non-compliance and malnutrition.
  • Modifying treatment as directed by the physician as the wound progresses through the stages of healing; and provision of specialized wound care - debridement (sharp, autolytic,
  • enzymatic and mechanical: pulsed lavage, whirlpool, wet to dry dressings, ultrasonic).
  • Edema management, application of antimicrobial agents, application and management of
  • negative pressure therapy, application and removal of dressings of all kinds, advanced
  • technology of all kinds including but not limited to bioengineered tissues, platelet gel, etc.
  • A working understanding of wound care terminology.
  • Fitting and measuring for pre-made compression stockings/garments.
  • Practical understanding and adherence to universal precautions/infection control.
  • Ability to order needed supplies to carry out patient care (mail order dressing supplies,
  • negative pressure therapy supplies, etc).
  • Provide burn care to patients from infancy to geriatrics with age appropriate considerations.
  • Ability to input orders for tests of all kinds including but not limited to processing of a wound culture, wound biopsy, etc.
  • Ability to properly obtain correct pharmaceutical agents/solutions per physician order as well as their correct application and storage needs in compliance with hospital rules.
  • Ability to completely and accurately fill out wound care documentation forms within department Wound Expert documentation system and on hospital Meditech documentation system.
  • Proper handling, processing and management of instruments including tweezers, scissors, scalpels, and other instruments as patient care requires.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team. Recognize patients appropriate for referrals to available services; for example PT, OT
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Registered Nurse

We offer inpatient and outpatient mental health care for adolescents and adults at its 74-bed Behavioral Health Center.
