Examples of Duties
This position is responsible for the administrative and technical supervision of a small staff of income maintenance caseworkers. The employee serves as the supervisor of a unit or sub-unit of an income maintenance program which may involve all eligibility functions (i.e., intake, processing, review, etc.) or as the supervisor of a unit or sub-units with one or more functions of the income maintenance programs. The Income Maintenance programs involved could include but are not limited to: Food and Nutrition Services, Work First/TANF, Family and Children Medicaid, Special Assistance, Refugee Assistance and Energy Assistance. This position may be located in the following sections: Applications, Adult Medicaid, Recertifications, or Special Teams.
This primary purpose of this position is to provide direct daily supervision to the line staff, offer support, motivation, monitoring, evaluations, training, guidance and team building which allows the unit members to provide quality service to their customers. This is achieved through unit meetings, conferences, staffing, collective or one-on-one training sessions, evaluations, monthly quality assurance to include 100% checking of actions, and the day-to-day answers to questions asked by the caseworkers.
This position must be human-services oriented and possess the ability to interact positively with customers, line-workers, supervisors, co-workers, and administration. This position must be open to giving and receiving assistance. This position performs other related duties are assigned.
This employee must respond to disasters as needed in accordance with the Cumberland County DSS policy or upon the declaration of a state of emergency by the Cumberland County Emergency Management Office.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Three years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Investigator in an income maintenance program, preferably with one year of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Human Services degree or equivalent and three years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience OR three years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience in a NC DSS agency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of all income maintenance programs, forms, and documents used in determining eligibility. Considerable knowledge of the use of the income maintenance manuals and the NC Fast System. General knowledge of all agency programs and services. General knowledge of community services and programs which could affect the customer/applicant. Good mathematical, reasoning, and computational skills. Ability to instruct, organize, direct, and supervise lower level employees. Ability to communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, applicants, and community agencies to obtain pertinent data and to interpret rules and regulations. Ability to present information orally and in written form.

Has or is able to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver\'s License.
This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
